4X4 Adventure Park/Trail HRM « Thread Started on Aug 21, 2007, 7:44pm »
I was curious to see if there would be interest in an Off-Road Jeep 4x4 Adventure Park in the HRM. It would be on a 2000 acre piece of land 8 minutes from the Armdale Rotary and provide Theme days, Off road Driving Training, I don't know if it would be big enough for a Jeep Jamboree, but if it is, that would work. It could also provide programs like Get To Know Your Jeep, Winter Drivng Skills, Trials Championships, Camping, or just plain sloshing through mud. If there is sufficent interest, I could proceed with my business partner. I also mentioned a lodge/clubhouse sufficent to hold a large group, possible cabins, memberships, advertised radio events. I am looking for input. The people who drive 4x4's, Jeeps in particular know more about it or what they want better than me so let me know. I am able to get some sponsorship for events, and the bigest obsticle, a large chunk of multi-terrain, ocean front, rock, mud, forest, and flat land could be used for all kinds of fun off orad stuff.
Further, Jeep people, or other such "REAL" 4x4 people who wish to become involved as instructors, tour guides, advanced driving instructors, how-to-mechanical people, P/R, or whatever input would be compensated. It does not just have to include Jeep. I have a guy who wants to buy a Hummer as soon as this opens. I figure it would give Jeep owners something to laugh at or tow backwards uphill! (No, I didn't tell him that, he owns the land)

Let me know about anything you think would help get this going and make some $$ and have some fun. Again, don't be afriad to include NON-Jeep people, as this will take a big chunk of change to get up and running.

i would be willing support this as much as possible.
both financially as in willing to pay enterance fee's to events and rides, and as a volunteer to develop trails, and or trail maintenance.
i think there is definetly room for a park around here!!!!
the way the rest of the counrty and the States is going further and further with land closure, it is only a matter of time b4 we feel the crush here. Alberta is CLOSED. California is in the biggest fight of their lives to keep the Rubicon open, Fordyce is CLOSED. Paragon is CLOSED. /rant.
as for terrain - i personally prefer to crawl around on obsticals. i am happy with a short difficult course. the amount of land you mention would be more than adequate for a crawling type event/trails. idealy the land would have some elevation changes, lots of rock, forested areas. but there are many styles of wheeling. some like easy senic paths. my input is my own opinion only, but i can say that the specialized corner of wheeling - rockcrawling- would be very receptive to this idea.
water crossing is a big issue with DNR. many codes to fufill. lots of research will be needed.
hope you get the feedback you are looking for, glad i could help guide you to our site.

This is exactly the input I am looking for. So many times when something is built. it is do so without the input of the users. I have no idea what 4x4 people want. I have gone through 2-3 ft of mud in my Land Rover and my Land Cruiser has been over sand dunes in Baja, but I need input on real Jeep stuff. If there is a park of any kind or some place where "Mud happens" I would love to go and observe and see what people want. I would love to get back into 4x4 even more, but I don't even know what stores sell ARB, JAQs, EMU, RAM Bull Bars, WARN and all the rest. The guy who is contributing the land also has an interest(If you call it that) in 4x4. A retail strictly 4x4 may also be an option. Any and all bits of info would be welcome!

I think that this is a great Idea , HRM needs more trails ! and an off road park would be a great start . Rock , hill climbs and technical trails are few and far between in around HRM , with a high concentration of off roaders being in this area . I would also think that supporting ATV's and motor cycles would help with this , not all trails need to be hardcore , beginner trails and mild stuff would cover all aspects of the off road world . And A higher concentration of trails would prob bring out more buggys for Extreme off road adventures . I say bring it on ! and I would gladly pay to play
I drive over stuff 88 MJ built from other peoples JUNK ! 93 XJ 4 ltr H.O. auto 06 Rubi 241OR 04 Rubi D 44 front . 8 in coils, longarms ! 99 Exploder 8.8, lockright, SOA 06 Ranger 60/40, buckets Currie joints everywhere ! Custom built flat deck 35 KM2's 36 TSL's

i'd like to more forcibly make the point i would be willing to pay to use this service. year pass, day passes, event passes, whatever. good value for my money of course, it has to be affordable.
i am less interested in facilities like clubhouse or a shop, i just want to wheel. BUT - there is a large segment of the club that is very socially oriented, beyond wheeling, i only speak for myself.
camping area's would be awesome. there tends to be a fun time to be had around the campfire after a long day in the woods.

Definitely a market here in metro for such a facility. I would definitely be willing to pay to play if such a place existed. I also believe there would be lots of people interested in volunteering their time to develop the land if that was desired. I think a off road park would only increase the growth of the sport in the area, I know a number of people that don't want to invest the money in ATVs or other off road vehicles such as jeeps because of land use issues, finding areas that are OK to wheel in. Any chance you want to open this weekend? lol

Hi Richard:
I have done a tremendous amount of research and base work on this very subject. I've attended several meetings with DOT,DNR,Tourism NS and the Provincial Ministry. The creation of such a park is long overdue and this just happens to be a great time to venture forth! Past problems that hampered similar park plans from myself have been pushed aside with new OHV laws.
My own back ground involves several years as operations manager for AVP the company that was contracted to create and run JJ Canada. I currently travel a great deal building and consulting on ride and drive events for this same company. It has been my pleasure to see off roading continue to grow to the point of being seen as one of the fastest growing motor sports in Canada.
There is a great wealth of knowledge and skills with many of the Jeep club members. There are several other people involved in the rock crawling aspect of wheeling residing in metro and other NS regions. These people have always in past times, been willing to answer questions and share thier knowledge. Depending on the land you have and it's topographic profile, a very impressive park could be created on 2000 acres.
The large corporations I currently work with in the automotive industry all realize the need for a safe area to promote their programs and products. Numerous times my mention of a park has brought about rather long discussions on ideas for programs.
Please keep in mind we are only talking about the 4x4 aspect. In the ATV and 2 wheel arena the field is almost limitless with the potential for growth.
Feel free to contact me with a PM, if you'd like my PH # to continue this further.

It sounds like a good idea, my question is if it is only 8 minutes from the rotary it would be prime land for development. I'd hate to see a nice park set up and then go the way of Paragon.
Is something stopping this land from being developed? Make sure you research all the by-laws and DNR rules, HRM loves subdivisions (property taxes!) but likes to fight anything that doesen't fit in their vision of the city.

Would it matter if it was in Windsor? Had a lake? Was more scenic than HRM? We have access to any piece of industrial construction equipment to hack, chop, dig or whatever the land.

The guy that owned the land, forgot he had it. He asked me about camp grounds and what I thought of a couple of somewhat unique ideas for one. I gave him the idea of a 4x4 campground adventure park. I included a lodge and numerous multi level trails. I also suggested special events for Jeep people like a Jamboree. I further suggests we have guided trails with "other" real 4x4 like Rover Defender 90, G500 Benz, and FZJ-100 Land Cruisers, fitted of course with modified equipment. I also thought of a try before you buy, as I know a couple of dealers who have loaned high end vehicles in the past for events and such. Since the 4x4 AUTO interest seems a bit "underground" and overshadowed by ATV and dirt-bikes, he is not sure something like this would even fly, although it sounds like a "Good idea" and looks like fun.
I don't have any experience in this area, but I have backing, contacts, ideas but I need ground level interest of the idea an a presentable business plan. I know it isn't going to make millions, but if there is a long term steady flow, I am sure that could work.

Windsor is actually an excellent location for the convenience of the Jeep club as there is a large chapter in the valley. 1/2 our members are down there. it would not be an issue to travel there as we go back and forth to the valley for runs frequently.
we have many machine operators in the club too! 2 of the guys who responed so far run heavy equipment. lol

I think it's a great idea. Some ideas that would be cool to have there would be like; -lets say a cement pad to rinse off your vehicle before you venture back home -picinic tables for eating -And for thoes Two company's mentioned above, it would be cool to see them bring down abd display parts or specials they have on for a weekend and cataloges stickers in little booths like you see at dirtbike races. -day/weekly/monthly/yearly pass's -and just little events within the park like they had at the jamboree.
*Just some thoes of things that could happen there*
I would love to see something like this in the maritimes, I think it would draw in alot from around the province. Keep us updated

I was thinking of that too. Something like a Family Day, Ladies Only day, Training clinics like, "Get to know your 4x4" from an expert. Safety in the Snow. Winter driving for 4x4's. These could be fore every Tomas Richard and Harold who recently purchased a new 4x4 something. If you work with the dealers, a coupon to come to the park would be included in the purchase of each 4x4 vehicle as a "value added service" . This would be the few times a "stick in the mud" would be appreciated.
