 Airbag help needed.
« Thread Started on May 1, 2012, 3:34pm »

Hello All,

I am looking to install an airbag over ride switch in my 2004 sahara tj, so my 3 year old can sit beside me when i have the rear seat removed..the seat is out alot because I do not have a truck any more. :'(

I have a switch on order from Dart Dodge, and it should be here any day. :)

I have read on line that the airbag control module will need to be flashed or reprogramed...can anyone confirm this for me? Please let me know what you have done. Do you think Dart Dodge can do this? My Mrs will be picking up the switch, so I do not want to over load her with questions to ask them.

I know I can pull the fuse(s) to prevent the airbags from deploying..Just wanting to do a proper clean install, and not stab the bag with a knife to keep my little buddy safe.

Many thanks for your time.

Kevin

My daughter used to ride with me all the time and I just pulled the fuse...too easy! Fuse panel is right behind the glove box, takes ten seconds to change.

Maybe I'm just too cheap to spend money on something that doesn't improve my Jeep's capability...

Good luck!!

Cheers!
Jeff

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for the advise.

I am away from home right now and had asked my Mrs to call D D for a price for a switch...when she got the price then she ordered it...this my have been a bit pre-mature as I have not done all my home work yet. Oh well my fault for not being home to do it myself.......she is very good at looking after this sort of stuff for me...so I am sure it will work out in the end. The switch is around $55 ish.

Thank you.

Yeah, I understand that...You could have got away cheaper but, $55. isn't bad for the safety of your little one...

My daughter is 14 now and living with her Mom in Ontario and I still haven't put the fuses back in..lol

The way I hit trees in the woods I'd be afraid to set it off..lol

Cheers!!

There are some real good posts on several Jeep Forums. Just google it. I know that the new JK it is not as easy to disable the airbag.

There may also be a insurance liability issue if you disable your air bag by pulling the fuse as it will turn off both the Driver and Passenger Airbags. I think the switch is the best option.

I wish they had a system for the JK.

They don't come on just 'cause you get in an accident. They have inertia triggers for frontal collision. rolling sideways may not trigger them. pitch-pole should tho.

you need 2 sensor detecting a shock at the exact same time to deploy the airbag
