"Creapy's quote"
We need a definitive thread on testing CPS and stuff.
Here it is, I tried to add diagrams but wouldn't work for me.
IF YOU WANT I CAN DO A HANDS ON DEMO AT JAM TO SHOW HOW EASY IT IS TO DO AND WHAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT WITH THIS EASY 1 WIRE TEST. I will be there all day, every day.
1st: when cranking the engine the Check engine light should go out.
2ND: when cranking the tach should move, not by much due to a approx cranking rpm of 200 or so.
If neither of these happen then your crank sensor is bad.
Easy isn't it. not so if your engine light is all ready on or your tach don't work either.
So lets prove it.
You can ohm the sensor but who cares what that reading is and what is the reading suppose to be. I don't know and don't care.
All you need is a test light. Hook the test light to the POSITIVE on the battery.
Now the crank sensor harness has 3 wires on it. a ground terminal (brown/yellow wire), a 5v supply terminal (orange wire) and a sensor signal terminal (gray/black wire). This is the one you want to trigger with the test light.
Unplug the crank sensor and you want to use the vehicle side of the connector (not the crank sensor connector). With the ignition key to the RUN position, take the test light and lightly toggle (DO NOT LEAVE IT ON THE TERMINAL) the sensor signal Terminal (GY/B). (DO NOT JAB THE TEST LIGHT INTO THE TERMINAL,DAMAGE TO THE TERMINAL WILL RESULT).
Each time you toggle the sensor signal terminal you make the fuel pump start up, the ignition coil sparks, relays click.
This checks the whole system, wiring, computer, relays, fuel pump, and ignition coil. if this all happens the crank sensor IS BAD
Now you also can use this to test your no start. If you toggle the sensor signal terminal and no spark but you hear the fuel pump go than it could be a bad ignition coil, wiring, relay fuse. Maybe computer
if you toggle the sensor signal terminal and you hear the spark but no fuel pump than it could be bad fuel pump, wiring, relay or fuse. Maybe computer
And there you have it.
