I picked up a 12K Tabor a couple years ago with the tie rod supports broken due to incorrectly spooling the line on the drum.
I picked up a Drum Support kit, Tie Rod kit and a couple new seals. Also grabbed a warn style clutch lever as opposed to the tabor one which is hard to turn by times.
Take out the 2 bolts a the end of the motor housing.
Pull the motor off the drum support piece
Set motor aside
Take the Allen head bolts out of the ends of the 2 tie rods. You can see mine are all scabbed up from the line rubbing on them
Go to the other end of the winch and take out the 10 Allen head bolts.
Separate the drum support from the planetary end of the winch.
Check the planetaries, the grease looked good so I never went much further, applied some more grease to the end gear and to the bushing the drum runs on.
Warn recommends grease with moly disulfide this stuff has the most moly I could find here in Truro.
Heres is the new grease on the planetaries.
Clean the mating surface and put on the new seal.
Put the new drum support on and put back in the 10 Allen head bolts.
Heres something to note. The ends of the winch can be clocked if necessary to better locate the clutch lever or the terminals. I'm gonna have to clock the clutch lever end on the heepota as I'm gonna mount the feet forward.
Grease the bushing the drum bears on, and make sure the little gear the drum engages on is aligned correctly.
Clean the old grease off the end of the drum, grease it up and slide it on
Heres the other end of the drum and the brake in the center of the bore.
I frigged up and it came apart so I took it out to re install
its 4 pieces, 2 spring looking thingies and 2 sets of fingers one of which engages with the shaft that runs through the drum the other engages with the drive motor.
Slide the brake assembly back into the drum and locate it on the end of the rod.
Grease up the other Drum support end and set it on the end of the drum
The tie rods are just alu. tube, they send you self tapping bolts so I run the bolt in and out on the vise before installing them.
Then installed them on the winch.
Then reinstall the drive motor.
Clutch Lever swap.
The only thing that holds the clutch lever in is a small Allen bolt.
Take out the bolt and the lever comes out. Put the new gasket on the new lever and install.
Now I have a basically new winch.
.
This was wicked easy to do and all you need is a couple Allen keys, wrench set and a flat head screwdriver.
All in all it took about 1.5 hours to complete.
