How is the frame? and floor? rockers etc... If those are decent I would start by getting the outside looking good that way you will be motivated to make it run If you look on ebay you will see that some of the parts on it are worth good money. Those lights/switches/handles etc... I am sure you know that Ray has 2 sitting over at the shop, he may have parts you need. Nice little rig... especially for free.

Yer gonna pull your hair out! Oh wait...

Is the frame as good as it looks? Looks like everything is there. I have a pile o crap I can't give away that would fit, can I drop it off at your house? ;D
There was a lot of those made and lots of parts still available used and new, I have a buddy that saved a couple and has a few too many parts. If you start fixing it up and need something let me know.
They were 24 V and had a waterproof ignition, that's why the plug wires and distributor cap look like that. Might be converted to 12V, I don't know if the dist and wires will work or if you need a regular dist. Having an alternator instead of a generator might have answered that question.
Have fun!

I say you have two choices, restore it to mint condition or let the build begin for bad ass v8 with 40" tires trailer queen, either way take lots of pics for the fans LOL

Good to know there are some parts out there. My thought was also how could I say no to free with papers. Since the Chevelle's home is in the garage I really didn't have a place to put it right now so Andre was nice enough to offer to let me put it in the compound til I decide what to do. Hoping he will also get bored one of these days and get curious of whether it runs or not...lol. I think the first thing is to get it running and then take a good look at the frame and make a decision after that. I seriously doubt I will be restoring it to stock though. The guy I got it from got it as a gift from his dad when he was 16 and has had it for 20 some odd years. He moved to Ontario a few years ago and decided it was time to get rid of it. Hasn't been started since then but at that time he said everything worked...blackout lights etc. One thing that is strange is that it almost seems like it has a skim coat of something on it everywhere. At first I thought it might be fill but it is too consistent in thiickness and the metal underneath doesn't seem to have any damage...so anyone know if they used to coat these with anything. The guy I got it from said nothing was done since he had it.

I'm going to cast my vote for restoration, or resto-mod with some upgraded drivetrain but leave everything else alone. Hell, drop the body on a 4-banger TJ frame and be done with it ;D

looks like it may have been covered with "Grease and graphite" - Lord only knows what it is... I've seen some pretty bizarre mixtures sprayed on cars...

Get what needs to be done to have it MVI'd and wheel it as is...then you will realize real Jeeps don't need lockers, lifts, 35"+ tires, V8s, etc....just determination and the ability to drive
