Bernie MacPherson from down Antigonish brought his extremely yellow 'glass CJ7 up to Dartmouth for some lovin. Bunch of little annoying things wrong he doesn't have time to fix, or doesn't have the proper tools to make perfect. This is a really nice rig in great shape, it just needs some fixes.
EDIT: SPY PIC!
I mentioned its yellow, right? ;D and lots of stainless too. The look is a little dated, I'd like to get rid of those lights and make a nicer front bumper. Hopefully I'll have time.
Injected 4.0 HO installed by APJ a few years ago. It starts and runs great. Well the key sticks on the starter, but that's the steering column's fault. I'm not sure what the trans is yet, but it won't shift into first easily, and it seems like a hyd. clutch issue. Note rag to protect paint. I'm not used to that.
We were kinda talking power brake swap..... not much room.
I can see the firewall moving with the brake pedal and clutch pedal, might have to beef the firewall. Man, its some busy in that corner. The brakes SUCK right now. the pedal is hard and high, it just don't wanna stop.
Not wanting to rip it all apart right away, I started on some other 'little' things.
Bernie owns a Crown undercoating business.....this Jeep is like working on a greased pig! The bolts are all coming out....when I can keep my hand on the wrench! The Crown is everywhere! ;D
The leaf shackles hit the bumper and lock the leaf. And some of the steering box brackets are cracked. Makes for a bumpy ride and is a little dangerous for handling.
Removed bumper and 8274 so I can work on that stuff. It'll take a crane to get that off.
kinda like shaving after a beard. ;D frame is in great shape, which is good news. All stock holes are ok.
Driving this around the yard, it is one big rattle box. I backed 'er in the shop for some easy picky work, to relax after thinking about that brake swap. the tailgate is rattly as old hell, doesn't sit level, and these tab things interfere with his toolbox. So I drilled holes so the gate sits flat, and trimmed the bracket.
The gate latches jingle and jangle, and don't hold the gate closed, it just rattles. i removed the spacers underneath...
..measure how much to remove to make the gate tight, and got after it on the old Southbend. How old you ask? 1939. Quality tools last forever. you can't buy stuff like this new anymore.
Yeah, so now it sits flat, doesn't interfere with the toolbox, supports (my) weight evenly on both cables, and is held tightly closed and doesn't make a rattle.
One annoying thing down, 20-something to go.
