Hello everyone!
Just wondering if anyone has done a full vinyl wrap or plastidipped their jeep to protect the paint from branches and whatnot on the trail. Would like to know if either of them actually prevent the branches from reaching the jeep's paint or if the branches scratch right through the wrap/plastidip. Also curious how well each of them holds up over time.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

I think plastidip would be a good solution to prevent light pin stripes in the clear coat but something that's going to penetrate clear coat is also going to tear right through vinyl/plastidip.

I tend to agree with the above - it will help for some lighter scratches but it won't hold up to a whole lot of abuse

If you are that worried about the paint on a Jeep, stick to the pavement until you are not worried about pinstriping. There are very few trails that are wide open enough for no pinstriping from branches.

I've looked at doing this on my Eagle as opposed to painting it, but it ended up that I'd rather fully paint the car (and fix any possible bad spots).
I have personally seen a few pickups in the woods with plasti-dip. If you put enough layers on and let it cure properly (I think 4-7 is recommended and 20 minutes in between each coat) it would stand up to a lot. It won't stand up to being dug into by a big stick, or pounded and scraped by big rocks, but it IS surprisingly tough.
Vinyl wrap...seen the camoflage stuff on pickups that been in the woods, seems sturdy enough. I imaging the same with plastidip though, but sticks or rocks will rip it apart.
Buy a can or 2 and find a place on the Jeep that sees a lot of action, then coat it and test it. It peels right off like a second skin (awesome to do btw) and leaves no trace. Plastidipping the Jeep would cost around $400 DIY, or $800 to get it done anywhere else (was a place in the city that did it for a while but shut down).
Edit : After seeing that Trailskinz site I KNOW the route I'd be taking!!

I do like the sound of those clear Bush Skin Ultra protectors! I realize that rocks and branches will go through any kind of film/plastidip. I'm just looking for something to reduce pinstriping caused by foliage, etc. Thanks for all your input. I'm really leaning towards those Trailskinz now. And not wheeling the Jeep is out of the question! That's why I'm getting it in the first place.

You would be surprised at how durable 4 coats of dip can hold up. I plati dipped the rocker, bumpers and wheels on my truck over a year ago and its holding up great no nicks or tears even on the wheels. mind you I don't wheel my truck the way I used to wheel my jeep but I have wheeled the truck.

Dewie, I just noticed you have a Niva! That's friggin' awesome! I almost bought one for the hell of it a few months back. Someone was selling one in Cape Breton.

I have had my grill plasti-dipped for over a year now and the 3-4 coats have held up.
Plus the $20 a can price tag on dip for touching up is much better than ruining a $1500-2000 vinyl wrap.

If you know anyone going to the States, you can get it for $6 a can.

If I were to do the whole jeep I'd get the a few of the 1 gallon buckets and and use a paint sprayer. Dipit.ca has a bunch of color options.
