So I think I’ve got multiple problems going on When I had the rear jacked up in the garage and the Jeep running in drive, I had noises/vibes coming from I believe the t-case I assumed this was the same noise I was hearing on the road My plan was to drop the t-case last night and tear it apart I got a jump on it Thurs night and took the front driveshaft out, but when I drove to and from work Fri the noise was gone So maybe it was the driveshaft in the first place, but what was the noise in the garage I put it back in the garage last night and retested with the rear jacked up and running in drive The noise is only there when it hits about 65 km/hr or more It’s there in both 3rd & 4th (auto tranny) but it’s a bit worse in 4th It sounds like it’s coming from the t-case, but can’t be sure I retested on the road without the driveshaft and no constant grinding noise, even when driven at a constant 65 – 75 km/hr There was a slight noise for a couple secs when above 65 km/hr I’ve noticed this before but it’s not a constant noise and is only every once in a while So then I checked the front driveshaft and the CV joint was a bit botchy I sprayed it down with Rust Check and it’s as good as new I put it back in and retested on the road, noise is gone So… Problem 1: constant grinding noise on the road Location: front driveshaft Solution: Rust Check Problem 2: grinding when rear is jacked up and running in drive and at 65 km/hr or more Location: t-case, maybe tranny Solution: ? Guess I’ll drive it till it gets worse

When you put it on stands was the axel hanging or did you put the stands under the axel? If the axel hangs you may get a pinion vibration as if you were fully flexed out....

The stands were under the axle

Hopefully it was the drive shaft. If that fails on you when your doing hwy speeds say good by to your T-case. Happened to me in the Rubi and my 241 blew apart in pieces. Was pretty scary happening at 120 km/ph.

The main noise that started it all was definitely the front driveshaft...this is where you say atoadaso Chris
The noise when on the stands is still a mystery It only does it when on the stands I had a couple people look at it and figure it might be the t-case or tranny but can't explain why it's not doing it on the road

[/quote] It could be that when the jeep is on the stands, there is no load on the problem part, thus it is looser and able to rattle. When on the road, there is a load on the drivetrain, and keeps the loose part tightened up a bit. To me, that could be just about anything in the T/C. Worn bearing(s) could do that, I think. Have you tried in low range as well, then the T/C is running through the planetaries. Could help isolate the noise. (Of course, low range is noisy anyway, a bit of a whine to it.) Have you checked the colour of the oil in the T/C? Any silver tint to it would indicate some metal in the oil. (Goes without saying I suppose, but I assume there is oil in the T/C? )

That makes sense, that's kinda what I was thinking but wasn't sure
