Pulled the rear drive shaft, transfer case skid, and transmission crossmember off the parts rig last night. The stupid nutserts for the skid plate were just spinning in the frame, so had to cut them off. Not exactly fun when you can't keep your face away from the sparks. I was smelling burnt beard for a while! LOL Next time I'll remember to bring my face shield with me! I tried to unbolt the transfer case, but holy frig, they don't want to break loose, and there's no bloody room to get good leverage on the ratchet. I could just cut a hole in the floor which you give me easy access, or remove it after I drop the trans. Now I just need to unbolt the transmission, and see if I can get it off without dropping it on my head. That would make for a bad night! It looks like the transfer case was leaking fluid, and it doesn't seem like the progressive coupler is working in it.

Got the new starter installed today. Man, what a difference cranking it over! I'm going to pull the old one apart, and see if I can bring it back to life.

Ratchet wrenches are great for a couple of those t-case bolts... and stubby box end wrenches with another wrench on the open end for leverage.

Well, today was the first day in a long time that I was able to drive my Jeep to work. The trans isn't working right, but it didn't slip today. I do only have 2nd and 3rd, and have to shift it myself, but it moves! My thoughts on needing to trim more to fit the 32's were also right. Not too much more needs to come off though. Front: Rear:

So, what's an easy way to get at the bolts that are on top of the transfer case? Why cut a large hole in the floor, that's how!

Soooo..... I've been driving the Jeep for the past two weeks, and it started off shifting rough, going into limp mode, but after a few days, it's running damn near perfect. The only thing it's doing now is, when I come to a stop, it feels like the TC is locking and unlocking, causing it to surge some. No slipping, and good shifts now too. So saying this, it really makes me not want to do a transmission swap. I'll have the other one if needed though. I'll check the codes tonight to see what it's showing, but the CEL hasn't come on since it stopped going into limp mode. I checked the fluid level last week after getting home from work, and it was at the top hot full mark. This one isn't mine, but it looks the same. I don't think it would reach full temp going from the airport to Elmsdale, so I guess it is possible that there's too much fluid in there. I'm taking it into town tonight, and will check it when I get home to see where it is.

Well the transmission is out of the parts rig!! Of course, the one in the Jeep is working pretty damn good now, and no longer throwing codes. I guess that's a good thing, but it makes me uncertain of what's going on with it.
Also, when I checked the fluid level when I got home last night, it was a hair above the top full hole, so I sucked a bit out.

For the wheelwells, it's hitting where it's circled in red. I don't think I can get anymore more room there. I think the bump stop extensions are the only thing that will keep the tires down enough to clear. I'll try and get them put in tomorrow.

Bump stop extensions are in, and they are just enough that the tire no longer contacts the back of the wheel well, or the lip of the fender.

Well I'm starting on getting the bumpers and cladding from the Limited ready to go on to my rig. I cut the rear bumper for tire clearance, and shot a few coats of PPG Epoxy paint on it. I might paint the whole Jeep with it yet, but not sure if I want a blacked out rig or not. Marked for cutting: Cut and painted:
