buying a new rubicon is only smart if you want to keep it (mostly) stock.
All the time I see guys who buy a new rubicon and throw new tires, lift, regear, bumpers etc.
Before you know it you just paid 15-20 grand extra for front 44 when you could have just bought a sport and an aftermarket 44 with lockers

So one is better off (cash wise) buying a Sport or Sahara and then putting on the stuff they want for off roading?
Mrg, are those dealer installed options?

I am installing all the extras. The only think a Rubi has over other models is a front Dana 44, 4.10 gears, lockers and a 4:1 transfer case. I don't need any of that for 33" tires and mild-moderate wheeling. I'd love for car ordering to go back to like it was in the 70's where you could pick from a 100 different options.

If you are going to replace the gears, tires/wheels, suspension etc you are better off buying a sport and putting in a new 44 front, gears, lockers, lift and if you are very serious a t-case... If you're going to buy a Sahara it may be better to go for the rubicon

Stock Rubicon rims and tires are a easy sell anyways. As for gears a 3.6 with 4:10 package will handle a 35 no problem. If your end gold is locked 36"ish tires and lower, your not going to beat the Rubicon package price. Also the transfer case is amazing. From my sport to this is a joke. Now if you want 40s no dana 44 is going to hold I dont care if god made it, Ill break it. Go ghetto jeep package and find tons. Building 44s a waste when your already putting the time in and the mindset of huge tires. My opinion you want locked up DD and keeping the tire size in range go rubicon. You want more? build tons and sacrifice your wallet or drive-ability.

So lets see here 4k for a front 44 3k for lockers front/rear with regear 2k for lift kit 3k for tires/wheels Atlas t-case 5k These are all rough prices, but leaning to the high side... if you can see for the same price you can have a WAY more capable jeep than a stock rubicon, not even counting a where you've bought an aftermarket lift/tires
