My steel car trailer needs a coat of paint and is pretty rusty in some places. I figured sandblasting would be the best way to prep it. I was planning to rent the gear with a big compressor from a local place. Any words of wisdom? I have the outdoor space and equipment to move the trailer frame, flip it over or suspend it, etc. Just have never done any blasting before...

I'm also going to get some prices on having it done locally... need to know if I actually save much doing it myself.

Jonathan, you'll have to use metal etching primer after blasting and get it on right away. It'll flash rust very quickly.

Ricks auto body in Waterville has a commercial blaster, probably cheaper then renting

I did a whole tj hood with sanding discs and hand sanding then painted it myself... Trust me take it to a local shop youll never save money or get the same quality painting yourself
