I have a customer who would like to buy a 2004 KJ. She has severe arthritis and can't squeeze the shifter to put it into gear. Has anyone solved a problem like this before? Thank you.

how about adapting something out of a big rig - their handbrake lever lets you use your whole hand to release the parking brake - something like a bicycle brake - more area to grip

I know what you mean about the big-rig style. I'd like something that a company built. I need something like a "push down" style. She can not move the button on the factory shifter at all. The pressure from her whole hand pushing down possibly could.

If the KJ shifter is anything like the old XJ style, the movement of pushing in sideways is actually pushing down on a shaft through the middle of the shifter. I would expect that any aftermarket shift ball with a button on the top would work.

Johnnie I could put some kind of electric actuator in there for her, it could activate off of a micro switch, as easy to push a telephone button, and if that wont do it maybe you need that new telepathic shifter!

For the record, I thin kit is pretty cool that you are willing to go out of your way to help this person.
