Howdy.
I would like to make my XJ more trail worthy than it is in its day one stock form.
I realize the options are as vast as your pockets are deep; lift kits, sye's, snorkels, 40 inch tires, soa's, etc. Since $ is always a factor ... I'd like to ask for everyones opinion on the best "order" of mods to do.
Do stock XJ's even come with tow hooks? After my morning coffee I'll have to go out and check ...
Thanks

1 - Tow points 2 - go see Craig Bennett and armor the heck outta it - gas tank, rockers, t-case, diffs 3 - tires 4 - wheel it that way and learn the in/outs of the truck and brush up on your skills 5 - snag a 3" lift from the guys at www.xtension4x4.ca/ (or others) and learn the drive all over again. 6 - 31" tires will not fit a stock Cherokee - 33" tires will not fit a Cherokee w/a 3" lift - all that assumes you DON'T want to do a big trimming job on sheetmetal 7 - you *MAY* need a SYE, but should be fine at 3", but it depends on the year of the truck...and it's "personality" 8 - wonder if you did it all right the first time, as now you're really impressed, but want to go to 5"...LOL *ask me how I know...LOL*

Good summation Duane!! Seems like you've researched this well huh?? lol
Pretty much what he said applies for any rig. Learn to drive it with as little lift as needed! You'll appreciate it more in long run that ur rig isnt doin all the work for u on the trail!! Unless you're an experienced wheeler, in which case u prolly wouldn't be askin these questions!

All you need is a set of 235/75/15 Goodyear AT/S a couple of skid plates and some tow hooks. Then go out and learn and have fun. Learn first, build second and you will blow spectators minds.

And maybe some rocker panel protection. Also a good thing to have jjcan to follow or co-pilot. Best technical driver in the Club.

AMEN Len - and for Heaven's sake LISTEN when jjcan give you direction! Don't suddenly decide he's nuts and hit the brakes - you'll just hit a tree while sliding down the hill...LOL ...ask me how I know THAT one...LOL

Thanks again folks.
I've got somewhere to start now. It's nice to know I don't have to go "over the top" to start enjoyng some 4x4'ing.
