for anyone who went to rear discs and lost the e-brake, or wants to gear up a d-shaft e-brake: princess has on sale a small mechanical caliper. it has a little lever on it you could hook up to a cable. like a choke, but heavier duty cable. like a posi-lock for front diffs would work. disc caliper brake ass. #4760161 wt 1.4lbs (small!) sale $49.99, reg. $69.99. mounting bracket $9.99. it looks like if you had a sye, or a fixed output t-case, it wouldn't be too hard to weld a small disc to the yoke, and mount this little unit to the t-case. it's small enough looking in the flyer, that you would also have room on the rear disc, in addition to your regular discs. hopefully it goes wide enough to fit over a jeep disc. something to remember about mounting at the t-case, the caliper can be pretty small, because it is before the gear reduction in the diff. ie: it would be 4.10 times harder to hold the rig at the rear discs than at the driveshaft. i think i'll pick one up! was thinking about homebrewing a sye on my 231 at some point, so i could incorporate this at the same time. i can't see how to do it at the t-case with a slip yoke. impossible?

That's just what I planned to use on mine. They even sell a disc to go with them, if you can't make your own . I don't think they will open enough to go over a Jeep disc. Only way I see that you could get it to work on a slip yoke is for the calliper to freely float back and forth with the disc. It would probably be less work to do a SYE. Did you use Jeep calipers on the back of yours Jan? Post up that pic of your set-up again if you don't mind. Always nice to look at what someone else has done before you do it yourself. I'd like to do it now instead of getting new shoes, but just not enough time.

yup. 88 xj calipers because they have a bolt on bracket. then bolt that bracket to the one welded to the axle. and they are like $30.
95 zj/xj rotors, center hole fits over my d44 axle, 88 rotor does not.
your '5 has d44 with 1 piece axle, right? should be the same.
can't post pics from work. tonight.

Figures, I have 2 good newer style callipers. I've got old style ones to trade in though, and get them for $22 each. I have the brackets and 2 good newer style rotors too. Just have to re-drill the bolt pattern.

don't forget flex lines. point the bleeders up, too.
sounds like you have everything you need.
and a t-case with a fixed yoke.
did you ever hear of the Impala booster swap for cj's? works good. i got pics of that, too.

I've got good flex lines too. I'll need to get a new master cylinder, and it sounds like that E-350 one works well. A '75 Cutlass booster would probably be the same as an Impala one, and I have one of those. It was manual steering and 4 wheel drum brakes when I got it in 2000. Power steering in 2001, front discs last summer, now it'll soon be rear discs too. I haven't even started driving the Grand yet, and it's already spoiling me!!

ya, the cutlass booster should be the same. it bolted onto my '5, had to widen the slots a spec. lengthen rod 1/8".
i just left the stock master, didn't change to rear disc. but it really helped out. the '5 has those 1 year big disc in front, 78-79 only.
I think the e350 only bolts to yj/xj/zj booster.
the cj guys use something else. 68 corvette. net says its cheap and easy to get, too.
maybe. 68 vette's aren't exactly crawlin out of junkyards around these parts.
