You mean who checked the wiper blades, headlight aim and brakes? ;D They have a small check off list, and none of it involves the repairs here, except for the mirror. Just about every XJ I know has had the floor replaced, and never heard of it getting engineer approval, and the floor holds the wheels on.

In Nova Scotia, all that has to be done to register a vehicle that has been wrote off is get a mechanical fitness check done. Those can be done by any licensed mechanic. I know this for a fact, my ZJ had been wrote off. When I got it registered, they didn't even tag it as being reconstructed. It was wrote off for having a bent front axle and blown airbag, so it didn't really need to be called reconstructed, but they had no idea what had been done to it.

I think Casey is referring to the "safety inspection" it got.

The whole rebuilt title thing is a farce in my opinion. I've got a CRV with a rebuilt title, it was driveable and written off, parts expensive new I guess. I can say, I've seen pics posted of unibodies on this site many times that should have been junked, and no one said a word, no floor from front to back, and in some cases the roof cut off. Not sure why this one is being singled out, even the skeptics saw what a great job was done putting it back together. How does a mechanic tell that a job was well done once the bondo is applied? They can't, it's an opinion.
Ever looked under your XJ?

Could you point out the illegal repairs made to this jeep? Or are you just jumping on the band wagon to bash these guys?

I use to work in autobody back in the early nineties. By what I saw in the pictures the repairs were done correctly. The pillars were cut so that the inside an outside were staggered. This repair will be just as strong as if it had never been repaired. I have done a couple of these repairs in the past. The only thing that we added was extra sheet metal at the joints and spot welded it inside the pillar. The repair looks good guys. Great work. Rob

I was one of the many sceptics, mostly because I though it would have been easier to buy a shell and swap parts, but you guys did an excellent job fixing it up. Its not anything that hasn't been done before (I've had a car with a rebuilt title, and had no idea what had been done to it, but I drove it for 3 years).

well i've worked in a body repair shop for a while and i'd like to know what 's supposed to be illegal ? looks great to me , i've seen things smashed so bad that different body's are put on and the only thing left of truck frames are motor and tranny and rear housing. everything is changed and swapped and they stamp rebuilder on papers..... only thing i see on this truck illegal is tires stick out too far , ( not complaining) but if you look at about every 3rd truck that goes by there's do also . i wanna see what paint will be ! ;D

I have seen complete front clips replaced on uni body vehicles. basically from the firewall forward. It was not fun to do but it is perfectly legal. It was a Ford Mustang that had about 50 grand in mods done to it. It was also un-insured at the time of the accident so the customer had to pay out of his pocket. What a ride it was.
