We dragged this beast back to my place this morning. Going to be a co-project between securekey and I. Its a '78 CJ5, with a fiberglass body. Has a 258 inline 6 with some performance goodies, what I think is a T18 trans and dana 20 transfer case. AMC 20 rear and Dana 30 axles with 4.10 gears. It does run and drive, but no brakes and the only gear it likes is reverse, unless you bump it hard from reverse. Biggest issue that needs to be addressed first is the rear frame. We'll be pulling the tub off to get a better look at the frame as a whole. If it turns out to be really bad, there was a homemade frame that came with it, made from 2x4. No provisions for mounting anything on it, so it'd be a ton of work, but its an option. At least my little guy thinks it pretty cool! Big thanks to Mike for hauling it with the dodge, and Enos for doing the initial looky lou. Paul

Cool stuff The frame being as bad as it is sucks but it will be fun to see what you do to it.
Novak website - "All Jeep CJ's from 1977 to 1979 had wide-ratio T18 with the 6.32:1 first gear."
6 bolt hubs and disc brakes in the front?

Whats the Ziptie for? I find it funny that someone would put a ziptie through the hole and not realize there was a problem with the frame.

Nice to see another 5 being resurrected, but if you decide to junk it, I'll take the tub!
The hardtop on my 5 is off that Jeep. He had offered the rest to me in a guest PM, but never got back to me when I said I'd take it.
This is the info he sent me:
- 78 CJ 5 - 258 six - 4 bbl holley (750cfm I think) - Cliffird intake - Flat top pistons - Clifford cam - Header ( 3 into 2 dual exhaust) - Massive amounts of tourque. - T176 4 speed - Dana 300 - AMC 20 rear (3.54 open, 2pc axles) - Dana 30 front (3.54 w/ LSD) -Fibergalss tub, hood, & fenders (fenders have been cut to flatfender look) - Frame is basically red powder being held together by a couple peices of steel plate.

Thanks for the info Alan! I figured there had to be some good internals in the engine, but all we knew (and the guy we got it from) was what we could see (carb, intake, header). And I thought it looked like a 300, but everything I read said should be a 20. Sucks it doesn't have the granny low T18 tho. I'll be by to pickup my hardtop next time I'm in Bear River Paul
