Took the inspection cover off the trans, defiantly the T176 (or 177 or 178??) and dana 300. Oddly enough, as soon as the cover came off, the thing shifts just fine. I think its fouling on the shift boot! Paul The only difference between a 176-177-178 is the thickness of the bellhousing, which was to offset the trans for the thickness of the firewalls on the FSJ's. or proove me wrong Jeepers!

I did a little poking around today... Yup, there is a limited slip in there! Also, notice the 41-10 stamped on the ring gear, so 4:10 gears. I think its fouling on the shift boot! The t-case is still hard to shift, but i can see the linkage hitting against the body. Paul nice. I want to come out and tear into it too. Is it Saturday yet??? lol

Ha, it's got the same hose clamp deal I put on mine. The pins can come out and your shifter goes sideways, had that happen at the Jam last year.
That's probably a tracloc, doesn't look like a powerloc. The power loc could be built stiff, close to a spool.

lol... yeah.. I had the same hose clamp on my t-176... haha Don't get too excited about the tracloc... it's probably beat, and then you need to get a new carrier to put a real locker in it! good deal on the gears though! Bill

Bill Those axles are going to be in the for sale section soon Should be a good find for someone... has a tracloc, 4.10's and WARN hub conversion. We are going to TOY or waggy 44's ... we have a set of each.. probably make a decision soon...

End of build day #1, on schedule so far. Stripping down the tub. Pulling the fenders and grill. Off comes the tub and stripped out the axles. Now we can get a good look at the frame. This is the rear spring hanger, the outer C channel is ok, but the inside is toast up to the belly skid. The other side is better but has a shady patch on it already that needs to be redone. The ends of the frame are toast, we'll need to replace the last 12" on both sides. Driver front is seedy above the shackle mounts and on the inside back to the motor mounts. The front crossmember is all cracked around the steering box. Passenger side was poorly patched before, and will need to be replaced back to the motor mount. This is the homemade frame that we got with it. 3/16" all through, but the joints aren't properly mitered or fish-plated. I'm not too certain of the dimensions either, its 33" wide, and the CJ frame is 29" at the front and 37" at the back. I think the old frame is fixable (lord knows we've fixed worse, and without the benefit of having the body off), and I think it'd be a ton of work marking/transferring all the mounts for everything onto the new bare frame. If we ever decide to go nuts with link suspension etc, it'd be the way to go tho. Lots of help today, Rob, Mike and my buddy Adam worked all day, and Scott and Kevin stopped by just in time to help pull the tub. We're off to Truro tomorrow night to pick out some real axles to put under it ;D Paul

All that in one day! At that rate you'll be driving it out tomorrow.
Are you keeping the stock engine/transmission/transfer case?
