I went into the garage this AM with TDog to install some new lights and after we were done I pulled the Dodge into the garage to look at some lighting issues I have on it before heading out for the evening..
This is where it starts to be interesting. She has been slipping for a couple of days, and shifting funny. So today I start the truck and there is a clicking noise coming out of the tranny that gets MUCH worse when I put it into Drive. Took it for a short drive. NOT working good. Sounds like the clicking is a death rattle. LOL
Tranny is a 46re 4 sp Auto. Any one with any insight into what I should have a look at to troubleshoot this?

have not driven it since. Just had all the fluids changed about two weeks ago. Heading out to have a look at it now.

It is the right fluid. Put in a litre of ATF and thank fawk it now shifts well, with no more noises.

No leaks. Looks like I have to keep a closer eye on the place that does the fluid top ups when I get the oil changed. They just did not top up the ATF. Was pretty scary, and fawkered my plans for the evening, but I am glad the tranny is fine.

some trannys are touchier on the fluid levels than others - when I had my S10 it would regularly lose 2 -3 Litres and I wouldn't know until it wouldn't shift in the morning

Fluid place prob went by what the manual said for quantity... I know my FSM is wrong, by a LOT, for the amount needed when the pan is dropped.

Often times people install a HD tranny cooler or it's done as a tow pkg option. This increases the fluid capacity and it's certainly not noted in the spec's. I keep a wall chart with all my vech spec's so I can double check my rapidly fading memory  |

On the 904's or 727 I have run in the past, being low 1 L would cause noticeable slippage.
Worst tranny ever was in the Bronco II's. I'm pretty sure the owners manual said replace unit every 12 months or when temperature dipped below 0 c, whichever comes first.

46 is a fairly good tranny, the only prob i have seen at the dealer is the converter blows up, just make sure you dont use atf +3
