This weekend is the maiden voyage of our new-to-us 10' hardtop. I'll be towing it with the 4.0-WJ. I've never towed a TT before so what's the deal with overdrive? When I towed it home I turned OD off while traveling on city streets and hilly areas, switching back on flat highway in 80/100 kph zones. Is this right? I'd rather not put extra wear on my trans. But don't want to burn more fuel(high revs) if I don't have to. I know that with towing mpg's should be too big of a concern but the Scotchie in me needs to know Thanks ;D

Owners manual prob says to not tow in OD... that's a pain in the ass. I prefer to install a good tranny cooler, and switch off OD when I start to feel the load. If you leave OD off all the time, you'll be chewing through gas in a hurry.

You will know if you should be towing in OD or not by the amount that it hunts. leave the OD on for a trip... You will quickly know what you are dealing with and how to use the OD in your particular situation.

Some loads/hills/etc you'll need it off, other times its just smooth sailin'

I like to have power available all the time, in OD you'll have nothing. I keep it in drive and suffer the mileage.

I have the 4.7L

as per above. don't load up the OD. don't let it hunt. cruising on the highways flats is ok. drop out of OD for hills, slower traffic.
how heavy is the trailer?

the two sleds we tow with the TJ weigh more than that and the Jeep is in OD except on the hills and if we are passing someone - like that ever happens, lol
