Got some scrap metal/aluminum piling up in the garage I'd like to 'cash in'. Most of it is little stuff that I have no use for that I just throw in 5 gallon buckets till they get full (old nails/bolts/scraps/etc). This isn't big chunks of cast iron/metal (though some of it is).
I also have some old aluminum intake manifolds/etc. These aren't 'pure' aluminum and have bits of steel pressed in here and there.
Where do you guys take stuff like this? Who takes 'non-pure' aluminum? How much do you get for it (obviously less than solid aluminum, but less than solid steel?).
Are these places going to be pissed off by my 'little load' of scrap steel, like I'm wasting their time?
Thanks guys,
Tim

Place in burnside pays the highest. A lot of recycle places take it now as well, blue nose bottle, the place on portland by the robins/lake,,, But the smaller the place the smaller thay pay Da

Burnside Recycling gives the most for scrap metals like brass, copper and aluminum.
The smaller places in Dartmouth all take their stuff there after they pay you for it so avoid the middle man and get top dollar.
ps. you won't get anything for steel. I filled the trunk of the neon with ring and pinions from large trucks... 400lbs-ish got $16 at the metal place next door to Burnside Recycling.

Thanks for the replies guys. What about 'mixed aluminum/steel' worth takign that in?
If not, heck I'll just throw a bit in the garbage every week.
Project, so scrap steel is about 4c / lb.. ya not going to get much for what I have thats for sure. Oh well, gotta get rid of it somewhere.
Thanks

for steel, they go by the ton and it changes every day slightly. there is no money in it unless you got a truck full of it.
for the other metals, it's totally worth taking it in... last year I was getting over 1$ lb for brass, between 65cents and 90cents lb for aluminum... depending on quality of the aluminum. It's up now.
Burnside recycling will only take copper, brass and aluminum...not steel. But there is a scrap steel place next door to it. Burnside recycling will take aluminum with steel parts in it like intakes but try to get them clean of steel as possible for maximum return.
I am an advocate of recycling metals. Nothing at work here gets tossed out like that. About once a month I take the aluminum to there and get enough to buy the crew a couple pizzas. Metals shouldn't be going to the landfill if you can get cash for it. Even steel. Every pound of stuff you recycle is another pound someone doesn't have to mine from the earth.

SNF is next door to Burnside Recycling.... Blue building. If it's your first time going in on the scale, you have to go upstairs into the "tower thing" to open an account first. Wear boots you don't mind getting full of toxic sludge.
I found the recycling place gave more for brass, copper and aluminum. And I didn't have to walk around in mud up to my knees.
