Looking for any input but here is where I`m at as of now - though I`d love to have a diesel $$$ talk in general price and maintenance ( my opinion - not in stone ). Wife likes the Chev Silverado and have learned not the 4.8 but the 5.3 . The intended towee - well bought the wife a horse ( housed at Mothers in Windsor Forks ) in August and once stopped growing approx 1500 lbs but would like to haul at least a dual horse trailer. Any input appreciated ( the Kee dosen`t cut it ) Mark

Any 1/2 ton should comfortably do what you are asking. Look at the 5.3 or the 6.2 in the Chev, the Hemi in the Ram and whatever the equivalent Ford would be. Lots of power and torque for towing. I would not want to try to carry a heavy load AND tow, but for towing only you have lots of choice in body style.

Heavy in this case maybe only some hay on the truck and the trailer - may also tow car trailer with my CJ ocassionally but locally of course. Thanks Len Mark
And oh I have no choice at least a extended cab ;D

Keep in mind that a round bale of hay can weight over 1000lbs, maxing out a half ton truck. I don't know if you were thinking of a full round bale when you said hay, or how many times you would have to put one in the truck.
Saying that, farmers max out their trucks quite a bit, so I am sure you would be fine with one or two horses.
PS: the Ford V8 to go for is the 5.4

I am carrying 300 lbs shy of TWO tons in the back of the Dodge. I should by rights be using a dually, but alas, I bought what I can afford. She walks it off with no issues power-wise, but in the long run it will be really hard on her.

i quite often run with 2000 lbs + in the bed of my 90 f-150...... i don't care if it's hard on it.... as long as i don't get caught lol.
if you can find it, go for the 6L chev, a friend plow with the 5.3L and has been less then impressed with it, so i doubt it would be great for towing.
5.4L in the ford forsure. 4.6L is a great motor......... if it's in a vic. not an f-series
extended cabs are great, now that i've had one. i wouldn't buy anything else for myself.. the extra storage is nice on a rainy day, and it gives us room to stow the kiddo's

No, round bails are out - have access to a 3/4 ton duramax for that. Square bails for show and the show gear in the front of the trailer I hope ( most have tack rooms in front ) Mark I'm looking at a coulple of trucks at Cars, Trucks R us - any opinions on this dealership ( trust me it wouldn't require much above my local ones )

I would take a Toyota if it was free. ;D X2 Admit it Len you liked it It would be the first truck I looked at I have towed with the V 10 Ford gasser almost all the Chev's including the Duramax dually , and a 454 Both of Len's dodges Of course the Diesels are in a class of their own , but as far as gassers go , the Toy wins hands down Just my $ .02

Like I said , I towed the Manchee back from Bible Hill , I never even knew it was behind me . I towed MY XJ behind it too , tows great ! I borrowed it one time to take the kids camping , down to upper clements park . On the way back I got stuck behind 5 cars doing maybe 75 km's , I finally got a chance to pass , and buy the time I hit the lead car , I looked down , and I was doing a buck 60 That is the one thing that is scary , it drives so good , that you don't even know how fast you are going , If I owned one , I don't think I would have my license very long ;D
