Is anyone runnning this combo? The 4liter seams tough enough to compensate for the tall gears. Comments?

You'll be ok, but you'd be happier with something lower. Something to think about in the future.

What Bill said. I ran the stock gears, 31's and the auto - I noticed the difference on hills, away from the stop light and at the gas pumps.
Next up for me is 4.10's with the 31/auto combo I currently have in the Comanche.

Sportsguy, How was it on fuel? Like my signature shows, the Tercel must disapear; I can't find a lift for it. 40mpg is going to be hard to give up.

I get around 18mpg with a 4.0L auto, 3.55 gears and 31s. Didn't you have 3.55s also Duane (sportsguy)?

OK, here's the deal:
Enos - yep, 3.55's.
In the Cherokee I averaged, over 3 tanks of gas, 17 MPG. I did have the original, clogged I think, cat on as well. (31's, almost 4" of lift)
My Comanche averaged 24 MPG (4.0/auto) when I first got it. That's slipped to about 22 MPG after the install of the Rubicon 31" tires and rims. I geneally run with my tailgate up, but on one run to the Valley I hit 24 MPG with the larger tires, but no tailgate.

So it seems that 4:11 are the best bet for performance with 31"+ tires.
