By far the simplest way is to find a disc brake front axle and do a complete swap. John

Another easy option would be to swap knuckles out from a donor d30. 78-79's have a larger rotor and use 6 bolt hubs instead of the 5 bolt. I never hurt them with 35's. I also swapped in a power booster from a mid 80's Impala, pretty much bolted in, and had to add 1/8" to the end of the actuator rod from the brake pedal. Booster was $30 from junkyard. Mine was already disc, so I didn't have to change master cyl., I don't know if you would or not. I could damn near lift the rear wheels off the ground in the cj5 with this setup. VERY effective, and cheap. pic of booster and master. the little strut rod thing just touches the large dia. of the booster. no big deal.

I got a front axle that had discs on it and swapped the knuckles onto my axle. The hubs were the 5 bolt style, so I just machined the back of my 6 bolt hubs so the rotor would fit them. Mine already had power brakes, so I just put an XJ master cylinder on my booster (just had to widen the mounting holes a bit). I had calipers, but they are the same as early XJ/YJ ones, and I used XJ flex lines. It's nice to have brakes after going through mud and water.

Hmmm.....so does anyone have any of these 6 bolt brake set-ups? I'll probably just buy new rotors, calipers, etc. so I think I just need the 6 bolt caliper mount. 1976 - early '78 is what I'm looking for. Let me know.

It's just steering knuckles for disc brakes you need Roy, from any year CJ 5 or 7. I can machine your hubs to take the rotors.
