What's the thinking on this one gang?
I've read that items like marine altenators tend to hold up to moisture better than our regular gear, so is it worth it?
Is there such a thing as a marine distibutor?
I'm not thinking of the ultimate in waterproof here, just something a bit better designed to deal with moisture. Any use in exploring this option? I realize the cost is more, but if it'll be a "replace it once" kind of purchase, it could be worth it.

Alternators generally don't have a problem with water, it's the mud that tears the ass outta them. For the most part boats don't see much mud, so a marine alternator probably wouldn't help out much.
As for a marine distributer, you'll never find one for a 4.0L, so at the least you'll have to convert to a chev HEI type setup before tackling this. Silicone around the cap and a breather host instead of the breather cap is probably just as effective.

Bill Thanks for the feedback Bill. i appreciate it. ...though I must confess, I was unaware that altenators today came equipped with an ass... This does explain the statement I read a while back in another forum, though. The poster stated, "My altenator has gone to $hit." Makes total sense now.

Duane:
I've sealed my distrib. and housings so no water gets in. Parked it underwater up to the dist. plus hit it with high pressure, no problems. They need to be vented, so I use braided hose, clear to see any water. I've done several for members and no one has stalled out in water.
Marine alt's and such often don't have real high outputs. The bigger one's arn't built to see water either.
Seal it up,vent it right and you'll never have issues. I use smaller fittings I buy at ACA Poultry. They are used to water chickens. They sell T's.Y's etc. Great items and built tough.
