I don't think I would weld the front end. Old solid front end 4 wheelers were miserable to turn on flat ground because of this. It would definitely add stress to your steering setup.
I have been following this buggy build for quite awhile now. Awesome work. Rob D

05 5.7L Hemi WK 32's and a whole lot of power will get most anywhere.
After I finished the truck this morning I decided to get the kids buggy working
Forgive the junk falling out of the buggy ;D At least I know everything works and now I know where high/lo and reverse is. Problem is the engine spins reverse from what the case is so drive is now reverse and reverse is forward But I have a way around that
While I was at it I installed the tank for the steering and started bleeding the system. And now the steering works
As before it steers quicker one way than the other because of the fluid displacement of the cylinder. Nice to see things working though.
1992 YJ Sahara grill and a whole bunch of pipe.......with tires.....
After a few set backs I decided to ignore the buggy for a while.
Then I reverted back to building stuff. The kids booster seats just didn't seem right. They were a bit too cumbersome so I took this afternoon off and made a couple of racing seats ;D
With the earlier issues with the wrong rotation of things I had to flip the 3rd member to get the tires to spin the right direction when in gear. But I had to cut out the cover to clear the ring gear.
Shows the now high pinion rear. I will change the front when I get more free time.
Just for giggles I left the front original and flipped the rear to the corrected rotation then started it up.
Here's a small vid. Don't think it will go anywhere this way ;D
The steering reacts fairly fast but there seems to be a problem with either the pump or steering valve. Although it works it gets very stiff/partially locks from time to time and when you turn and stop steering input it wants to still creep.

Will there be any issues with the pinion bearings oriented like that?
may be if it was flying up and down the road...if he overfill it it should be fine
Thats what I think as well. I was going to put a small baffle inside the housing to feed oil to the bearings but over filling will work for the "speed" this will be going.
A picture of how I had to mount the pump 180 degrees from first to get rotation correct.
