Okay, I'm done with fan clutchs.
What electric fan and fan shroud fit best in 4.0L TJ's? I thought I heard Ford Taurus, but what years?
Where might I buy one of these in decent running condition?
Any other hints or tips on this topic would be greatly appreciated as well.

Sorry I can't be of any help matching your rad to another fan/shroud.
just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary: It's been my experience that no electric fan can move as much air as a mechanical fan. You'd likely find that out in the dead of summer in bumper to bumper traffic or on a trail. There's a long standing arguement that mechanical fans rob a horsepower or two... with just as much arguement that the power to run an electric fan has to come from somewhere, load on alternator, etc, yada yada. I spent a lot of time trying for maximum cooling on another type of offroad vehicle. Mechanical with an aftermarket flex fan was the best "I" could do. Good luck.

Ditch the mech fan and go with a Taurus electric fan. The mechanical ones are not very good, except when brand new. A Taurus electric one will pull about somewhere around 2000 cfm *I think*. If you search sites like JU or POR, you will find which years work and what to look for. I can't remember offhand, but I believe the one you're looking for came in the 3.8, and has dual fan speeds. If you have ever been standing in front of someone's rig who is running a Taurus fan, you can actually feel the massive amounts of air being sucked throught the grill. Try that with a mechanical fan.... A Taurus fan can be had for anywhere up to $100 at a wrecker's, and the relay you will need can be had at NAPA for ~$65 or so. The p/n is ST85. I got my Taurus fan from Frank on the NBJC board, and I really don't know exactly what year it came out of, but it does cover most of the rad. I have it positioned at the top of the rad, so the uncovered spot sits below level with my winch. The one piece of advice I will offer you, is to be VERY careful if you plan on installing it when it is -15C or colder out, as the plastic shroud can break if you tighten the bolts up too far. Ask me how I know

Yep. Taurus fan is the way to go. Not sure if it will fit your application. If you are in the Timberlea area you can come measure mine. The fan and shroud are all one unit.
I've been running one for almost four years now its cools my 5.0 HO very well and it flows WAY more than any stock mechanical fan I've seen. I would say it even flows more than the flexilite fans I've come across as well. Which is the main reason I went with the Taurus fan. The stock ford fan on the 5.0, which some folks say is one of the better mechanical fans, was really crappy and would not keep the motor cool. Switched to electric and zero problems. I have a seperate switch to shut it off in water. Also I only run it on high. Alot less complicated.
Its been too long since I did mine so I forgot alot of details but I think Jan just did one. Perhaps contact him? POR is the best source of info on this.

Yeah, I've looked at Jan's and it's definitely the way to go. I just need to know what year Ford Taurus we're talking about so I can get one I'll check POR when I get home from work for all the details. Anyone know a good salvage yard to call?

I've been through the fan wars in years past. Clutch fans last for 1 mud trip. The electric I had was insanely powerful and too much. Drew 30 amps running. I use a stock mechanical, nothing to go wrons but I would like the ability to shut the fan off in water crossings. Let us know how you make out and if you find a good source for there Tarus fans.
