Just by lurking and reading a bit, you can tell there is some older vehicles in the crowd here. Got any funny stories about getting old stuff through our fine nova scotia safety inspection system?
Man it's like "please don't look too close where I chopped up that fender".

Personally I prefer to drive a safe vehicle. Having seen some scary junk on the roads of Provinces that don't have annual inspections, the NS system is something to be proud of.

This summer I had the pleasure of 3 Heavy Truck DOT checks. Just for the record, Mondays are training day at the Golden check point in B.C. "STAY AWAY"!!! I've had my Jeep checked at a N.S road side check and thought it very detailed. Ha! compaired to the B.C checks on Heavy Trucks it's a joke. In B.C alone I was held up for over 2 hours. They had 3 students training and they all had to do the paper work. They of course ask very nicely if I minded waiting. Ya like I'm going to go nuts and say pound sand! In Ontario it was a 3 hour delay while they waited for my trailer and truck spec's to be faxed through. I screwed up and didn't check the new paper work and someone only registered the truck for shipping weight. Not good! Completly my fault for not paying attention. In Golden, They made a driver send for a repair truck from Calgary, cause no one has shocks for his tractor. His were a bit damp! Shipping the shocks would have taken longer then driving them to B.C. I've always taken the approach that I know my vehicles pretty well, but I can certainly miss items. I always tell Jack,"the guy at the garage" to go over the sucker with a fine tooth comb. I fiqure Joc or Alex or Kelly will be driving the Jeep. I want to know if a hose is cracked or something worn. I would never forgive myself if something happened to my family cause I was to friggen cheap to fix or replace a 20-50 dollar item. Sometimes I do get frustrated! Getting failed cause I have driving lights uncovered but not wired up! 4 lights for back up. 2 hot wired and 2 switched. Only 3 worked, well better fail that! Little shit like that. Thats why I use the guy I have now. Comman sense fella. Brakes, stearing, etc he's serious as a heart attack! Small stuff, well no big deal.

AMC360...I did the same swap in my '85 CJ7. I drove it up my street once and the neighbors had the funniest looks on their faces. The Americans call it shock and awe I think.lol.

John andI had a blast when he drove from B.C to Rocky with me. I learned everything about farm equipment and we both shook our heads many, many times at the junk out on the roads.
It's like going into a bone yard around here and finding the most busted up piece of crap, slap on a sticker and away you go.

hey guys my 87 yj came with a major crack down the drivers side of the windsheild -- this is not a problem a far as inspection goes because it is not in the line of vision(wiper does not touch the crack at any point) -- the inspection sticker is actually stuck over the crack in the windsheild this summer while running to b'water from a good and muddy run in the valley i went thru a spot check (in, of all places East Dalhousie -- just left of nowhere) -- after running his finger over the crack to check the safety sticker i started to pull away and the rcmp officer hollered for me stop so he could check my plate -- he was kind enough to flip it back up in place (broken spring on the plate holder) and laughed as he asked if that was part of the camo -- he also suggested getting it fixed a.s.a.p.

My only "amusing" story is from when I first put the one ton axles and V8 into my jeep about 4 years ago. I went to get inspected. As it turns out I fogot to hook up little things like the park brake, back up lights, HORN! The mechanic started running through his deal. When he found out I didn't have a working horn he instead of looking at stuff he just started asking questions. When he asked if my reverse llights worked I reached under the dash pulled out a clump of wires and started strippin the wires with my teeth and splicing them together to get stuff to work.... ;D The mechanic gave me one of these then and just waved his hands and said "go away" and try again some other day.... Took some time before I had everything working again to try getting inspected again. Its always the little things that get you

A spot check in East Dalhousie? My camp is near there and that is the middle of nowhere. The cops probably ran out of gas and thought they better look busy while help came. As far as the 360 sounds, not much different than any v-8 jeep, inside i hear a sucking sound like precious liquid being whipped too fast thru a hose. I can get stickers easy but I like to have it checked over, I don't get as much time to do work to it myself and I don't want the wheels to fall off it.
I'm just scared of Vehicle compliance and their evil trailer!! All of our rigs would fail if gone over with a fine toothed comb, most new vehicles would probably have some sort of problem.

Do they do emissions tests at the compliance checks? I haven't had the pleasure of running into them yet. Did go through the safety inspection the other day at a local garage. Work paid off and it passed. Waiting to see if it would pass was like pacing the floor. I had a good shop repack the front bearings and was able to get an alignment very easily with the larger rims and 31's I got from gdfngjeep. jeep rims on a ford looks good.

as far as emissions go, i dont think we have any legislature on emmisions up here YET!! But id imagine if ur emissions are visible and dont evaporate like most cars, then ur prolly gonna have hard time wit them fellahs!! They're not keen on huge clouds of blue smoke!!! And yes id agree, those rims and tires i sold ya lok sweet, even on a Phord!! J/K! Justin

I removed the cat a long time ago and replaced with a resonator and since then i can smell the exhaust more from the end of the pipe. The O2 sensor is new but I wouldn't want a sniffer on there. It never did burn oil but I run mobil 1 synthetic anyway.... man-made oil doesn't burn like that. no blue.
those tires....dude they haul through snow. couldn't find anything to stop me the day of the storm. drove my dad to and from the QE2 that day, pulled a van from the ditch, generally had a blast. can't thank you enough.
