(cooler is better, right?). Nope. The computer reads the temperature and runs at the most efficient at 193F If the temperature doesn't come up to the proper operating temperature it will add a bit more fuel to help the "cold" engine run right. With computerized engines the temperarture is right or...it's wrong. John

I wouldn't boil a fail safe. it will lock open cause it's overheating. you might as well come home from ct and throw it in the garbage as boil it.

The verdict ... Since I knew my local Crappy Tire had no 193* t-stats in stock, I left for work early this morning and went to Dartmouth Dodge and picked up a Mopar 193* for $16.xx (taxes in) and it did come with all gaskets. My normal drive to work is ~ 10 minutes ... due to my 10 minute detour to Dart Dodge + the horrible traffic this a.m. .... it took me 1.5 hours to get to work .... with no interior heat .... and steel toe'd boots. COLD TOES. First call I made when I got to work was to National Rad. They were able to put it in for me @ 1pm for $24 ... well worth having heat and a normal operating temperature for my motor instead of waiting for a day nice enough to do it myself in the driveway . The one that came out was locked wide open. Once warm, my needle now hovers @ 100 (1/2 way on the gauge) and my interior heater makes me feel like I'm on vacation on a warm tropical island ... hmmm ... I wonder if my cup holders will hold umbrela drinks .... Thanks all!
