open span truss in my place, get the lights up high and feels bigger. def. room to rig a hardtop up there. lots of room for the roll up door. at the back of the shop are non-structural beams from wall to wall, you could do that to make a medium duty storage area in the "triangle" from tops of walls to peak, 8' or 10' out from back wall. (or as deep as you want i guess)
I wouldn't like the rafters at 8', the door would just clear lifted rigs....and could be a problem.

Right on. Yeah, I was thinking the door would be 9X9', and ceiling 10' or what ever was needed to accommodate the door. You never know, I might go full width if I take the Jeep off the road, or if I build a mud truck, or if I get a dually.... ;D Ok, so if I'm going to put in a loft, or some version of a loft, what end should I put it on? Over the main door, or over the back? I'm thinking MFR's setup is nice. Leaves the work area to be taller. Something like this, but mine would be in an "A" shape;

Ken's is neat, but its only like 7-8'. his little TJ works fine.
I'd definetly put storage at the rear, you want to put the door as high as possible. that pic above is not as good as it appears, the door is barely 7', you ain't getting no lifted truck in there.
if the storage was at the back, and that door up on the ceiling, then you are making the most of your room.

Not sure but I've heard that I'm limited to a 15' peak of the building. So if my walls are 10, that'll leave me with around 4'. More of a crawl space. A couple more days, and I think I'll hit up the draftsman that did my plans and ask some questions and modify the garage plans.

Glen That was for Ceder siding, windows ,doors, roofing, trusses Everything except slab,wiring....no insulation. That was for 28x36, 2x6's.........slab was going to be about 3-3500. I have a 26x36 now all insulated, I'm building this one for storage.

Alright onlybull, and 98TJ, let's hear some specifics on these garages.... steel buildings? 2X4 or 2X6 walls? Insulated? Wired? Siding? Sounds too good to be true. Buddy just built last year, with his house, 24X24, sided to match house, no insulation, no wiring, $20K Prices seem to range wildly... people telling me they put up a 24' square garage for $5K, and so on. Obviously, not the same as a $20K garage of the same size.... so what's the deal? Cutting corners somewhere? Others getting gouged on labor? ours was for material only. 2x6 walls, 10' ceiling. prebuilt trusses 5/12 pitch. 25 year shingles, 5/8 t&g ply roof. ranch wall exterior. r20 insulation vapour barrior, 1/2" drywall. 7 windows, 1 man door 10x10 door was not included no wiring, or lights $12,500 i think it was engineered slab, $2500 for concrete, $900 for rebar/mess no labour was in those prices. i built the building, and had a labourer highered to help me. everything was " contractor prices" that what we get with buyin' the materials though the business.

Correction; Sylvester weighs 17lbs, and to date has beat up 3 dogs and left Big G's cousin with permanent scars on his hands. 1 dog since being de-clawed. He's a bad a$$. LOL
