Good thread as I'm looking into building a bigger shop at my place.
I've seen steel buildings advertized in the "Masthead News" for good prices....5000-6000 for 20x30 for eveything but the slab and wireing etc...
Has anyone delt with those building kits? Not sure if they're the same as the domed ones?

The domes are a pain, expensive to insulate, hard to wire, hard to have windows etc. In the US they build a lot of pole barns, I've only seen a few here. 6x6 posts set in concrete then steel siding and roofing. Apparently it's a cheaper way to get a large building. If you build a building using posts you don't need an engineered slab so I hear.

Steel buildings will 'sweat', that is have a lot on condensation on the inside, that will drip down on you and your tools unless it is insulated with the spray on foam, which can cost a few thousand dollars extra. Wooden buildings need to be insulated as well, but they are not nearly as bad as steel if left uninsulated. And forget trying to heat a steel building if it is not insulated.

My father bought a house about 20 years ago that had a few poles lying in the yard, so we made him a woodhouse out of them, same idea.

Thoughts on waste oil boilers? Not sure if I should start a new thread of not...
I might have a good source, will need to check into transportation regs, insurance, blah, blah, blah.
New thread started.

from what i've heard, thier hard to get insurance on.... 2nd hand info though
they are expensive, and you've gotta take really good care of your used oil.
