Too warm for the furnace to be coming on in the garage. So I'd say my heat cost for the Winter was close to $200.00 for oil. Anyone else add up their cost yet?? Roy

The old man's power bill was higher than he expected....shop at 10 Deg, 28 x 40, in floor radiant off an on demand electric heater....about $330 for two months.

Man, after reading all these threads and seeing what people pay I am considering myself extremely lucky. I have a HW Boiler in my double attached garage which heats my DHW and my baseboards and even with all my zones off, I am still keeping my garage at a balmy 20 degrees. I fill my oil tank for less than 60 cents per litre and I get about 3 months out of it. I welcome my heating bill over some of the other bills any day!

The old man's power bill was higher than he expected....shop at 10 Deg, 28 x 40, in floor radiant off an on demand electric heater....about $330 for two months. Does the shop have it's own meter? how tall are the ceilings? What's the output of that unit? how about work in the garage? how much work was done in the shop compared to normal? I'm running in floor heat with an electric instant heater on a 30 Amp circuit kept at 10 to 12* all winter. Garage is only 22x24 with 10ft ceilings. although I'm not on a seperate meter, my power bill has only been max 50$ more a month and that really is determined how much welding and fab I'm doing. a basic month where I don't work in the garage much my bill was only about 20 to 30$ more. Last year I ran a 80 Gallon water heater and was similar in cost. my brother bought a gadget to measure the usage so you can trend your electrical output on each circuit. I'm going to borrow it so I can see how much draw the instant heater actually uses. The unit will break down the cost based on $/min or hr that you input. The main thing is proper insulation, if the garage is loosing heat faster then you can produce it, then your system is going to be cycling more which will cost more for sure.

heat for our shop. 20x40, finished, 6" insulation, 9 windows, 1 man door, 10x10 plywood door. 10' ceiling. heated with an old forced air oil furnace. digital thermostate. 45* at night, and weekends. 55* 7am to 5pm. higher if we feel cold filled the barrel in early october. and again 2 weeks ago...... $306.76... that was it.... and somedays we work with a truck stuck in the big door, and lots of cold air following it

Wow that sounds very resonable...his shop is 28 x 40, with 11' ceiling, 6" walls, fully insulated. Was just built last summer. One man door, two small windows and a garage door. Even has 2" insulation below the slab. Same setup, on demand hot water heater, has the water at 47 deg C, and the thermostat at 10 degrees. What water temp do you use? As for shop use, it's an evening/weekend used shop.
