You bringing the '68? Every thing you mention is optional in the 60's. Yep I'm bringing it. But try to convince a mechaic or cop that it's all optional.... I assume your talking about the antique auto registration thing ...,buddy drug me over the coals at the dmv about it ... What was the problem, not close enough to stock to get antique plates? Look me up at jam, I'll be driving the younger but bigger brother. I had a '66 CJ5 that I just didn't have the time or patience to finish so I sold it in parts. The tub was a repro and in nice shape. Ever hang out at www.earlycj5.com ?

Yep,I've been there a few times ,alot of info on there epecially about the odd fire.... Buddy at the dmv's problem wasn't that it wasn't quite stock ,but the fact (according to him) was that I could only drive it to and from car shows ,club criuses and no where else ,If I was caught anywhere else I would be fined for no reg . It ain't no car show candidate and probably never will be ,just a toy to spend time with my son ...

That is not true ,can be registered as antique and driven wherever you like as long as it's not a daily driver ,you must have at least one other vehicle registered regularly for the same current year. It's in the book .

I got this little "not stock" problem. I have personally seen people daily drive antique plated vehicles, one I know of went to town everyday. I "heard" the cops told him to stop, but it might have been because the body was getting ripe, or it might have been a rumor. If mine only had 31's on it I would go for antique plates. The other hurdle is getting a mechanic to sign off that it's safe, and the wording leaves way too much interpretation, it sounds like he's responsible for the remainder of the vehicle's life.

X3 This person thinks they know what they are talking about but they don't. I went through this with my Chevelle and looked it all up...I posted a link in a thread around here somewhere. Anyway, ask them to show you where it says that. Paul...what does the stock thing have to do with it? I think tested for originality refers to it actually being what year and make it is represented as. There are lifted Jeeps running around with antique plates and have been given a certificate of mechanical fitness in their current condition. www.gov.ns.ca/just/regulations/regs/mv3673.htmNow if you are talking about insurance through silver wheels or something like that there are some restrictions but even they don't include to and from car shows etc...again, just went through it.

What i understand is the originality of it is supposed to be how it came from the factory ,that being said .......just about every antique plated vehicle is not as it came from the factory . also ummmm lol

I like the way you think. Was swapping out front seats today and found a soft spot in the floor, couple hours later I had the fuel pump and filter removed and a patch welded in. Of course the patch was directly above the pump and filter. Time for a new filter anyway, when I poured it out it on the in side it had a brown tinge. Doing it's job.

I fully plan on antique plating the CJ in 2011!
As for my list for Trail Clearing this weekend & Jam.... -Replace all front wheel bearings -Replace driver side hub -See what else I find between now and then!

fuel won't be a problem, most people will have to fill up on the second day and there are usually gas stations on the way to most of the trails

You should be okay as long as it's full. The trail I'm on we always stop at Tim's on the way to the trail which is beside a gas station, and come back by it. Best to start each day full though.
