here is a pic of this thing, just cause its neat. Old multi-meter in mint condition. The needle reading is nice and steady and is sometimes a lot better for troubleshooting than a digital.

I don't have the box, but I got the meter! When my dad started his first year in tech school he bought one and eventually it ended up in my hands. I agree with you both the needle is better!

The nice thing about digital is having it alarm for continuity and their compact size. The big ones are great for shop use.

Same one here. I bought it at Commericial Equipment when I was 15 or 16. So that would make it 27 yrs old. That's not that old right? How many even remember Commericial Equipment?

Ha! Pic brings me back to '91, with a foulsmelling old-school journeyman over my shoulder, barking orders. I'm using his meter, flipping the scale back/forth between AC and Ohms, and turning power off-on, checking with both sides, until the fateful moment when the scale remained in ohms with 208 running thru. Poof in a blue flash and a puff of smoke, right in our faces. He did a 180 and didn't say a word. oops. Only later when the back was removed did we see the 3/8 2" pc of copper, replacing the Ohm fuse did he start talking to me....

That's why journeyman don't let apprentices use their amprobe for anything but amps. Not supposed to let the magic smoke out.

Ya once the magic smke is out your fubar. Did you work for me before? and if so you still owe me a meter,,,, I like the new digital self seting meter's, I have burnt a few of the others, and noone keeps the .05a fuses around so tinfoil or a piece of wire, you cant always run to get a fuse. Da Dogg

My fathers is even older I believe. Wooden case, and just looks oldtimey.
One great feature of them was the mirrored stripe. You line up the needle with the needles reflection so you can get an accurate measurement every time. Newer cheapo analog meters are very inaccurate unless you are staring at it straight on, but you have no way to tell.
For 99% of the time a GOOD digital is the way to go. There is very little reason for someone to own one anymore. That being said, I've got my claim on dads meter. lol
