Don't know how it ran before the gunk, so can't tell you. The jackstand was corrected immediately after that picture was taken. A new flat block of wood, and the jackstands lowered all the way. Check out the last picture on Day Two. Yes, they are nice rims and tires. Thanks. Day THREE - Start to repair, but still taking apart. Not much done today, had to go into town for steel. Rear shock mounts were toast, so grinding the welds off. There is a previous repair to the frame left side on the left of the picture. Thin sections on the bottom of the frame Thin spot on top of the frame, inside the shock mount. Shock mounts on the ground In the process of flipping the frame back and forth to grind on the top and bottom, the left side frame rail actually buckled at the old repair location Two small piles of rust on the ground from the inside of the frame when I stood it on end. I still have more to get out. The last two feet of frame is full of rust flakes. END of DAY THREE (Wednesday April 29) Tavern night tonight. Went in to Metals R Us, picked up some 1/8 flat bar to fix the frame. Can't really call it 'plating' the frame, have to call it 'sheeting' the frame since it is so thin. Tomorrow: Level the frame up, get it back to straight, and weld on the 'sheet' steel.

Day FOUR - Welding up the frame Because the frame moved a bit where it was rusted on the left side, I tried to level it side to side the whole length. But there is a bit of a twist in the frame and the front right side is up by half an inch. It would not level out even with weght on the frame. Not much I could do without anchor points to pull the frame straight, so I leveled up the rear part of the frame, and started 'sheeting' up the frame. (I will add anchor points to the floor of my garage when I build it.) right front corner of frame off the jackstand First piece in place, complete with 1/2 inch holes for plug welds Inside of drivers side Top of passenger side Outside of drivers side Bottom of drivers side. Not much to weld to. No need for plug welds. Passenger side bottom is not as bad. Finished welding. Drivers side is done on 4 sides, passenger side 3 sides. Outside on passenger side was okay. END of DAY Four (Thursday April 30) In case some of you are wondering about the welder. 220 volt Lincoln wire feed, using .035 flux core. Tomorrow will fix two broken bolts, a spun captive nut, and a small patch at the rear of the frame.

The crossmember cost me $167.24 taxes in at Darmouth Dodge, part no 52040338. It wouldn't be that hard to fabricate one, which would be stronger than the factory one, but I was looking at the time involved. You taking the body off to replace it? Don't forget, the support gussets do not come with the crossmember, but are listed separately. Do not know if you can still get them though.

Hey Chevy I have to replace the same cross member on my 94, where did you get the new one. THANKS in advance. I made a template 2 or 3 months ago when I fabricated my own new crossmember. I was told there was basically no sense in looking for a new one. if you want the template, I can take some photos of it with dimensions on it.

That would be great Dan thanks. I don't want spend 167.00 on a part that I can build. Dealers are just to expensive on most parts. I have 14'' cut of the back of my frame today, it only cost 40.00 for the metal shop to bend the plate to replace it. We do the welding.
