Springs? ;D As you can see by the pictures I didn't even have the axle until the very end of it. (which is why the tires don't quite clear the box) There is no suspension at all. It is a slow speed rig. If I could find some "proper" offset rims I'd likely haul it around a bit with the farm plate - but that would be all. On that note I have a utility trailer registered for the road with no suspension... I run "big" tires and they're all the suspension I've really needed... it's rough, but loaded it isn't too bad.

Finally got a couple hours to work at it. Disassembled, cleaned off, and cut off the 2nd axle tube. Cut the flanges off the axle shafts, and attempted to separate the brake drums from the hubs... with no luck. Here's what the hub/drum look like... I'm thinking I'll have to get them to a shop press. Any other ideas? I've tried resting the hub on a wooden block and hammer the drum off, and I've tried a cold chisel at the seam. Neither worked obviously.

some of those older drums where never ment to come apart. our 79 cube van, you have to pull the axle and the wheel bearings to pull the drum... our f-250 has a 93 rear axle, the drum just slides off

Hey G does your trailer set up still have the spring set up on the tounge?
That spring takes out the shock load and banging that you usually have with a pintle.
I'm planning to change mine back to a pintle before we go across Canada this summer.

If you need to see the tongue piece and spring set up so you can build a copy, I can take mine over to Halifax next week when I go over to work.

I can take that whole piece off and take it over if you want to get a look at it, or just the pintle piece with the spring and nut.
The PO cut the eye off and welded on a 2" ball set up. The spring still takes makes it smooth when taking off from a dead stop.

Wanna sell it? Perhaps you've got a spare, or know where I could find one?
I was pretty well convinced that I'd just use a plain pintle. Seeing yours might just be a tease... though you're more then welcome to swing by, have a look, shoot the shit.

Ya it's not for sale, and they are getting harder to find. If I get some free time when I'm there I'll pm ya.

Sounds good.
So, any opinions on the hub/ drum issue? My resident 14bolt/dana 60 expert tells me that he's always changed them as a complete unit.
Hope to get the wheels and tires mounted this week, and the next step will be to bolt on the hubs/ spindles, and measure for the axle sleeve.

Torch off the Drum? Are you looking to run brakes on the trailer?

No brakes on the trailer. I guess we'll call that the last resort. LOL Good idea though.
