Painted up all my brackets and bolts and reinstalled everything including a temporary cb antenna mount. Now I need to figure out where to put my cb. I'm thinking about mounting it on the centre console for now because the auto shifter is in the way to put it under the dash. Once it's a manual i can move it underneath.

Starting to redo the braking system. Swapping out old manual cj brakes for yj power brake setup and some new lines. Here is the old cj manual setup that works pretty poorly: And here is the yj booster that is going in. I test fit it and it bolts up fine but i need to take it back out to trim the opening a little because the rod to the pedal is hitting. And here are the yj pedals on left and cj pedals on right. Pretty similar except yj ones have an extra couple braces to the firewall and there is a bit different brake light switch. I would not have bothered to change it at all if i didn't need the clutch pedal in the future. I also managed to find a front fender flare that i was missing and drilled and bolted it on.

Are the pedals still out? Can you measure and see if the pivot ratio is the same?
measure from the pivot to the booster peg on the pedal, i'm wondering if they are the same.
The pics really help me out for the Cj I'm working on.
Thx!

Its no longer out but the brake pedals appeared to be exactly the same pivot and length and everything. The clutch pedal on the cj (well what was left of it. It was hacked off on mine, lol) had less travel by a bit.

Actually scratch that. Pivoy point is about 1 inch lower on yj pedal. That's why I'm going to have to open up the firewall hole a bit more.

Excellent, thanks for checking! (I take it you mean the booster rod attachment is 1" further from the pivot, since its hitting the firewall)
So more mechanical advantage on the YJ setup.
Did the pedal assemblies just swap right over? bolt in?

Actually the yj rod is lower on the booster and the pivot point is a bit lower. If you look at this you can see its below the centre of it. It seems like everything is going to bolt in ok. If you look at this gasket thing you can see how much i had to trim to get it to clear. A stock metal body probably wouldnt have this issue. And here is everything back in with the yj distribution thing and starting on the lines. Only reason i changed this is because i dont like how the cj one is so low and close the the exhaust. Hoping to finish this up tomorrow.

Still working on brakes. Ran a bunch of new lines and changed over the rubber flex line to ss on the back. Then on to finishing the pedals. I installed one of the extra braces the yj setup had that was not on the cj ones and had to drill a new hole in the firewall for it. This bracket that attatches the steering column had to be ground down on one side to accomodate for that support brace. And I ended up changing out the brake light switch to the old cj style one because it was a little bit longer and it would plug right in. The yj one didnt quite reach it and has more wires. This may be why some people doing this mod have extended the rod to the booster. I may have to do this yet but I'm going to try running it as is because it wasn't off by very much. It must be the difference in the firewall thickness. YJ style on left/CJ on right. Now I'm off to get some more brake fluid and borrow a bleeder pump thing and maybe test it later on tonight or tomorrow. I think I'm going to skip trying to make the poker run tomorrow as I still have a few other things I'd wanna have done first before wheeling.

Got the brakes all bled over the weekend and went to start it up and it was flooding gas out the top of the carb so I didn't get to test it until I opened it and cleaned it out. I wasn't really surprised as the previous owner had no fuel filter on it. I had added one when I was doing the work on my fuel tank but it wasn't too bad inside. While I had it apart I decided to put in an offroad needle and seat kit since they were only 20 bucks and r&d had one in stock and adjusted the float levels. Everything back together and running and I added my k and n filter. I had to order a new base plate that was higher to clear the distributor. It's running good now and I tested the brakes around the yard and I can now lock them up with ease. There was no way I could even lock them up before. Glad I did this mod. I disliked driving it much with the old brakes.

Looks like you're getting those little things sorted out man, glad its working for you.
What are the details on the edelbrock carb kit? I'm only familiar with the holleys. Curious.

Nice poncho on the air cleaner lol.
Brakes work good eh? I ordered the YJ stuff instead of the CJ. Glad to hear there is a big difference.

Yup lots of little things to pick away at but I'm getting to the point I feel it should be reliable to drive around some. The kit is just new needle and seat that has a spring built in so it's always in contact with the floats. Normally it just lets gravity hold it down and driving over rough terrain causes it to bounce and then it stumbles. I've read of people blocking or partially blocking the passage between the two fuel bowls to stop it from flooding one side on sidehills. I may try that too if I find it not working well. Nice poncho on the air cleaner lol. Brakes work good eh? I ordered the YJ stuff instead of the CJ. Glad to hear there is a big difference. The brakes were definitely worth the work. Not sure how they compare to an actual stock cj7 booster though as i've never driven one. And that poncho is a k and n pre-filter to keep mud out of the actual filter. Then if it gets too dirty while on the trails you can take it off once your back on the pavement. lol Todays project will be wiring in an adjustable fan controller. The sensor on the motor now is broke off so the fan isn't coming on.
