swish the gas around to mix it up? it is 2 stroke? 4 stroke. swished the raw premium gas in the big jug b4 putting into mower. the last fill was settled in the jug, and it ran like shit. Seemed to help run better? i'm grasping at straws here. going out now, I've lost BA when she tried to garden, need to find her b4 dark. lol

If your needle is sticking, then its gonna overflow out the air breather. A way to test your float is to remove the gas line and carb, flip it upside down, blow on the fitting, if its hard to blow then the needle is working, when you flip it right side up and blow, should allow air to pass thru.
Basic 2 Stroke..
Compression creates a push of air which draws fuel from the tank, to the carburetor and the jet sprays fuel into the cylinder also as well Fuel/Oil Mix travels thru a passage way in the crank to the top of the cylinder. where spark creates the combustion, so it lubricates the crank case and then cylinder walls. Pretty much how it works.
You should check this also, behind carburetor sometimes theres a breather hose into the crank or a small air port. If those don't seal then the motor does not get air to push fuel creating like a mechanical fuel pump.
Basics for any small engine from lawnmower to weed wacker, chainsaws. Sorry I'm not super technical, But Iam actual Small Engine Tech

Fuel doesn't last long, Might get 6 months, Might get 3 months all depends how its stored etc. We go thru fuel like crazy. Since Its always going bad.
The carburetor prolly needs a good bath, theres a lot of small passage ways for them to clog up.
Also theres usually a strainer in the gas tank that can clog up.

Found the strainer, it was ok. I'll have a look for the cylinder to carb tube.
I got it working pretty good again now anyway. Changed the plug, topped up oil, cleaned carb and blew it all out. got the lawn done yesterday without any stalling or acting up.
It just needed some basic maintenance and a good run afterwards.

Had to tear mine apart again last night, it would run for a couple of minutes and then sputter and die. Eventually it would just run after hitting the primer and I could keep it running by pumping the primer.
Rust in the gas tank again, it looks like something I will be dealing with constantly as the bottom of the tank is a mess and I have no idea how to clean it up permanently. I must have got some water in there over the winter 2 years ago. I took the tank off, sloshed the gas that was left in it around and poured it out in to a ice cream container...what a mess of rust flakes. Runs like a champ now though, way more power that the last couple of times I've used it.

Eww steel tank... they are the WORST once they start to rust (My tractor has a steel tank - but has a sediment bowl, which fortunately catches the most of it)
You could look at having the tank coated to keep it from rusting... you will loose volume this way though...
I personally would be looking for a similar fuel tank in plastic...

If you have an old battery around you can get some acid out of, pour battery acid in the tank overnight. It will clean it up nicely. Don't forget to wear goggles or better yet a full face shield when working with battery acid.
Safer yet though would be vinnegar. It is a mild acid, but if you fill the tank up with it, then get it boiling, it will clean the rust our as well.

Get a bucket of water maby a couple gallons and a battery charger (12v) source . couple table spoons of baking soda and a couple hours. dry thoroughly and paint the inside of the tank , all done ! Cheap and easy , just like me :-) gives you the idea , don't let the pieces touch though

I've heard good things about the baking soda and electrodes on another site. I may have to give it a try.
Any suggestions on what paint would hold up on the inside of a gas tank?
