Here's where the hunt for a carcass stands: I was following this jk in PQ : asking: $11,500 (ouch) ... just sold (DOH!) Thanks to help from kind folks in the NSJC, I've now got a lead on this one : The troubling thing here is that it may be branded as 'Salvage'. I've checked into what it takes to get it re-branded as 'Re-built' and all it takes is a structural/alignment inspection with a bunch of paperwork (before/after) and then a normal inspection. The problem starts with my insurance company. RBC won't touch a 'Re-built' truck, so now I'm trying to figure out how much the extra $$$ will be for insurance. Any suggestions for "Jeep Friendly" insurance providers??? Oh-yeah ... Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

there are so many companies who are more lenient than RBC. I don't pay a cent more with my "re-built" Grand Chreokee than I did with my YJ. the only thing you have to do to get your re-built status is to go to the DMV, get a "certificate of mechanical fitness", which will be given blank. when you have the Jeep finished, and it is time for inspection, take it there with the certificate, and the mechanic will fill it out at the same time. no extra work to be done really. you will need to photocopy the certificate once finished, and your insurance company will want a copy for themselves, that is, when you find a company who will take a rebuilt vehicle.

So with a great lead from an NSJC member, I checked out this '07 jk that was severely rear-ended. Any thoughts on how to sort this out?? It gets worse ... Just below the rear doors the frame has a second kink. The body behind the rear doors is completely mashed. Interestingly, all 4 doors still open/close & latch. Thoughts on how to fix up the frame damage???

nice find I can't credibly speak on this matter but I'm sure a body and frame shop could stretch it back to stock for not-so-much money.

Anyone able to throw out some names for a frame shop?? Try these guys: www.metrocollision.ns.ca/I've been friends with the family forever, and I know others in the club have used them. I'm assuming they have a frame machine. My Ranger spent a month here, took a while but decent job, frame was only tweaked. fairleystevens.dealerconnection.com/?lang=enThe Jeep hydroformed frame would be a bugger to straighten.

might be easier just to cut off the back of the frame, and build a new boxed section. that wouldn't cost an awful lot to have done.

www.metrocollision.ns.ca/I don't know about their frame straightening but we had a BAD experience with some insurance repairs to the grand there. 5 times to get a small dent fixed. I don't like slinging dirt but it was well over my patience limit.
