yeah, it was fun. i never ran in a highway tractor before, just your dumptrucks. i still can't get over the lady who signalled and tried to drive under the drive wheels. She was inches from death, we had to wag over onto the rumble strip, there was no shoulder, just Miller Lake before the scale going out to the airport. so i got a little rush out of that. lol all I could see was lake out my side.

I've come to terms with the fact that the 3 ton truck chassis and straight 6 will never do 120km/h down the highway. The engine is a tractor motor, it will not like sustained higher rpm, and will get 3mpg, then blow up. found out the wiring is 6V pos. ground. I bought a mid-80's 1ton Chev 2wd quadcab longbox chassis, with an SM420/435? 4-speed, good brakes, 12V wiring harness, steel bud wheels that can be made to look retro, and a 3.73 dually 14bolt D70. PO says the combo with a 350 cruised comfortably at 120km/h. Also, in his yard, he had a cube van - got the vertical steering setup included to fit the International cabover. I will swap the cabover to the new chassis, and go from there. I could not lower that cab more than 4" on the old International chassis due to the enormous tires. Now I can get the fenders scraping the asphalt. Modern 1ton brakes, much lower chassis so I can slam/airbag, and a SBC will bolt up, and is infintely modifiable to suit my power needs. All relatively cheap, and availiable everywhere. This truck needs to be reliable, and fixable. Running a mid-80's Chev 1ton chassis answers all these concerns. Anyone got a lead on a 350?

I'd like to not have a carb actually, but it would make everything so much easier.
pm details, will it bolt to SBC bell?

Original would be cool, but not that practical for what you want. Going with the more modern chassis will make a better truck, and done right will still be cool (rat rod style?? ;D )
My brother in law just retired his 97 F450 (7.3 auto), if I can manage to get it out of him cheap, I'd put the 40 Ford COE cab on it.

SM465, may be hydraulic clutch. It is. Makes mounting a non-issue. It also has hydro-boost brakes. I think the COE, since it has a snub-nose, can fit a booster anyway. Track width is within an inch, thought that was pretty cool. i was kinda sold at that point.

Anyone got a lead on a 350? 454 maybe? Not quite as plentiful, but nothing says hauling like a BB Chevy. Should bolt right in there.
