so I HAVE actually made some bits of progress as of late, I just forgot to add updates here... so here it goes: I started with the shackle reversal last time I updated. I finished that up for the most-part shortly after, but forgot to upload photos, so this is what i came up with. I used the existing mounts that I cut from the front, cut out a notch in the frame, and welded them in. in the back end, I decided I wanted to move the rear axle back, but can't afford to cut the floor and move the fuel tank, and add XJ springs, due to my time constraints, so I cut out some metal, and moved the mounts a bit.. this should net the rear about 1 1/2" stretch, and will pick up the back end of the YJ close to an inch. Then, I used a bit of 2" wide plate and welded it to the bottom of the frame rail, for strength, and to make sure it doesn't rust through in a month or two. how do ya like welds with a 110 MIG running flux core? hopefully I'll be back at it tomorrow some more, and get a bit more welding done. I really need to take some gloves out with me, my hands are getting sore..

Welds don't look to bad, if you were to grind off the rust down to bare metal and prep real nice your welds would improve tenfold.

I have never really worried a lot about prep. never on the top of my priority list, I don't do a lot of serious structural.
I did clean the corners, but I didn't go any farther than I needed to.

I have looked at this, but I think it would be easier for me, and better for clearance if I move it up 6-8" into the tub. then it will be up high, and out of the way, and I'll have room for everything

you know welding with no gloves is going to sunburn the shit out of your hands right?
the fluxcore on the bottom of the frame looks fine. you have to clean it up better (prep) for it to look nice.
the shackle reversal mounts in frame weren't welded across the bottom, just the sides. does the 2" wide strap grab that?

yeah Jan, I know, I just never take gloves out with me, and I hate wearing gloves also. don't worry about the shackle reversal mounts, the strap will go right over top of that, it'll be wayyy stronger than it was up front when they were there

got a bit more work done today. mostly just adding metal to the bottom of the frame and moving or removing brackets. I took the gas tank out of the YJ this morning, so I started building a new crossmember to hold it in place. you can't really tell from the photos, but the crossmember is 5 1/2" higher on the frame that origninal. the tank will be tucked up quite a bit, and the floor in the YJ will be cut out, with a cover over the top. for Jan, this is what I did with the shackle reversal. strapped right over and welded over. should hold fine.

also, I forgot the other thing that has taken most of my time.4 I already showed the new rear spring shackle bushing locations. they are moved about 1 1/2" back. I also moved the spring hangers back to match.hoping for 96"-97" wheelbase when it's all said and done.

are you using longuer spring? your shackle angle is kind of reversed. but all in all you are doing a lot of nice work!

Paul, once the heep is back on tires again with full weight on the springs, the shackles will be straight up and down, or pointed a little ways in the other direction. it looks that way because the springs have a lot of arch when unloaded, but only 4" of arch when loaded under the heep. also, there are no bushings in the springs at the time, I will be ordering all new ones, and I am building a set of longer shackles, so everything you are concerned with there shouldn't be an issue
