The guy here at Parts for trucks is good if you can deal with the attitude. I always make a template out of some rod, or bring the old one with me, even if its tack welded back together.

I've had EBM in Sackville make me a couple sets, the 1st set was perfect, the 2nd set was slightly off parallel and slightly unequal, and the price came off the top of a guys head, which was a bit more than the first set I had made. Prices could have gone up I suppose, and they made them while I waited.
They go by the height you ask for not the length of the rod.

I called them up this morning, and told them the issue, they were really good about it, and made me a new set. they had a guy coming through around noon, so he brought me the new ones, took back the old ones, and credited me for the old ones. now all is well, except for the fact thgat I probably won't have an opportunity to work on it again until next weekend. I was really excited about getting the axles mounted, or to be ab le to make up my spring plates at least. oh well, shit happens. wipe your ass and flush it away, and you're good til the next time.

so last night I cut a section of 1/2" plate, bent the edges over, and drilled some holes. hopefully it will make a good template for my rear u-bolt plates. fronts willl be a little different, but that's all good though.

so in no particular order, I have made a little more progress. the belly skid plate is loosely fitted up in place, lined up with long 1/2" bolts, and held up with ratchet straps. it is made of 3/8" plate, because I had plenty of it, and it was free. please don't tell me 1/4" is thick enough, I know. the rear is attached, spring plates finished. the plates are 1/2", since I made one as a test piece, and then decided it would take less work just to make a second one, rather than make two more of another size. I will be picking up another set of decent springs to use to make a military wrap on these, or use these ones for the military wrap, since the xj these came from sagged so badly, and you can see the springs are bent at the front end, even with no load on them. the front end is in, and attached, loosely. I made the spring plates from 3/8" plate. oh, and what do you think of the wagoneer over-the-knuckle steering? big bonus. I made a transmission mounting surface by drilling a piece of 1é4`plate, and cutting out an area the size of the plate, then welding it in. now the bolts are just about flush underneath. I may do something more there, haven`t made up my mind yet. that is what I have now. I should be seeing a couple of 4-cyl engines showing up in the next few days, so I can get my engine back together, and I might see about picking up another transmission soon too since mine was fawked before I parked the rig.

oh, one other question maybe someone can answer for me. what kind of angle should an engine have, I know basically every front-facing engine on the planet has a bit if an angle upwards toward the front. I have this sitting completely level right now, and wasnèt sure if that would hurt anything or not.

Nice work Dan,
I have a 2.5 Head sitting the the barn.... it's been kept out of the elements but I haven't looked at it for a bit as I had just planned to toss it in the scrap metal run.
I've also got a whole engine sitting at Davidson's that I plan to pick up.
If you aren't in a rush we might be heading down Annapolis way at some point in the next couple months.
Let me know if you're interested in either and I'll make sure to get something in the trunk if we head that way.

Rue, the plan is to have it ready some time this spring. it HAS TO be ready by Jam, if not by Easter.
Kristian, I may take you up on that offer. I'm looking for all the parts I can get for as little cost to me as possible. spare engine parts are always a help.
Jan, I'm really happy with the steering it comes with. all I have to do is make up a drag link, unless I can use my stock one.
OH, anyone have a stock Wagoneer pitman arm?

I've finally made some progress! took a road trip today and picked up some new parts. it`s true, I`m getting rid of the 2.5, and it`s about damn time. it has some kind of header I think, unless 4.0<s came with tubular headers. and I got some things I can part out, including a good 20gal fuel tank with sending unit, and a pair of axles, with probably 3.73`s. all in all, a good day. good parts, and everything I need to do my 4.0 swap! i got the fan shroud, all of the engine accessories, the longer fuel lines up to the fuel rails, engine mount locations for moving my motor mounts, and complete transmission and t-case. the transmission uses an external slave, which is a huge bonus.
