More last minute panic, tire carrier, bolted shocks up, fixed transfer case shifter linkage after it fell apart tonight, hooked up water temp guage, plugged a couple of vacuum leaks, liscense plate light, temporary seat belts for inspection, tightened ubolts, now having beer. Ahhh, that makes it all better. If it gets through inspection, weld roll bars and abuse it before Jam. Have to change a short side axle tomorrow, the dreaded Birfield click.
Paul
Forgot to mention, dshaft ujoint and oil change for the TJ too. I would have changed the unit bearing on the TJ too, but Chrysler put round head bolts on them. ;D Maybe they don't want me to change it, or maybe that's what they make grinders for.

Turns out there was a test lead for the fuel pump harness laying on the exhaust manifold. It shorted and burned the wiring harness for the fuel pump. I replaced the harness, and still couldn't get a signal for the fuel pump relay. Picked up a new computer and still no go. After cutting the complete harness open tonight and tracing wires I had forgotten to replace the power wire that had burned to the computer.(Internally fed the fuel pump) Ran a jumper and away it went. Now back to the garage to put the harness back together. edit Ready to roll!

Forgive my ignorance, but are a jeepster, and a jeep commando the same thing? Just trying to keep the models stright.

66-73 are Jeepster Commando, often the 66-71 are called Jeepsters and the 72-73 are referred to Commando's. The later ones had a grill more like an early Bronco, a lot of people put CJ7 or YJ front clips on them, like the other one at the Jam. They came in hardtops, halfcabs and convertibles, and a soft top was available aftermarket.

nice looking rig paul. I have now educated myself on the 'jeepster' and 'commando' line

right on. i'm impressed with this kit. the pricing seems excellent. angles are great, and it puts the steering up high.
one question: the last pic - is that butt-welded right below the crank pulley? you had to shorten the draglink?

Drag link is for a toy, way too long, so it was cut, tapered, and a rod machined to go inside then tig welded. The drag link itself is at least 1/4" thick if not thicker. I had no idea where to find someone with a 23 mm metric tap, or I would have cut it and rethreaded. Machinist thought this was the better option.

My plan was to do some finishing touches to the Jeepster starting this month, but a heavy foot put that behind a few weeks. I spun a crank bearing, and pulled the engine. Had to take the wheels off, made the front end lower and more room to manouver engine lift. Empty: Now I need to go bug the guy I bought the new engine from, it's still in the van. The new engine has a few different sensors, so instead of changing the wiring harness and computer I'll change the intake, and reuse the old intake and computer.

New engine is hanging in the garage, lots of changes to make, even both exhaust manifolds are different. Got all the crap stripped off of it, might be able to keep the intake and swap sensors, too early to tell.
