Engine is ready to go in I think, I've been kind of slow getting it ready, but also taking my time since it's a little different than the last one. I thought I could swap my intake from the '91 and put it on the '94 but the '94 has a balance shaft in the way, so I ended up using the '94 intake, and changing my sensors, all but the EGR, which is electric on the new intake and vacuum on the old one. Different bolt pattern as well, although I could make an adapter plate or block off off plate if need be. According to the EFI guru on Pirate I can run with no EGR, we'll have to wait and see on that one. The exhaust manifolds were different, so those needed swapping, and the old basepan was in better shape so I reused that one. I added a T to run an oil pressure guage, something I didn't have before. Garage is a pigpen, next job after the engine is in.

Fixed the pic, it was there last night. You're right, good to see the internals and get an idea of what you have, and searching out info for the other stuff can't hurt either. Just changing the van dipstick to a truck dipstick, put a new pilot bearing in and might have the thing in this afternoon.

Engine is bolted up, went so quick I thought I might come in and watch Extreme4x4. Haven't seen Jessie in awhile.

Well it runs, need to get the plumbing and exhaust in now. Couple more hours putting stuff back together, praying for no leaks. I was worried about getting the distributor in the right way, but it must be okay. I'll have to set the timing up when everything is back together. Has an oil pressure guage now.

Spent all afternoon listening to it backfire through the throttle body. Checked things like vacuum, but one thing was bothering me, the way the distributor was pointing when it was running. I figured I had the dist 180' out, so I swapped it, and wouldn't run at all. Put the dist back where it was, and it ran great, and it would rev without backfiring. Maybe it was one tooth out, dunno. Cleaned things up and took it for a drive, worked good but idle was a little high, and had some spark knock. I didn't time it yet, so that might help. The computer does that to some extent anyway, but I 'd like to know it's on. Anyway, it runs again.

Here it is a month later, haven't bothered with it, but have been looking to borrow a timing light to verify the timing. It would idle but backfire when revved. I visited Burkee a couple nights ago and he said he (Rallyroach) had one, so I borrowed it. All this time I thought I had the distributor in wrong, but it was fine. I put the light on it tonight, followed the directions from Pirate and set the timing. It works great! Thanks Paul! The throttle body on the new engine is a little stiff so the idle stays a few hundred high until you turn the throttle back by hand, so if it doesn't loosen up I'll throw my old TB on.
Next is rock rails!

That's funny, Paul and I were using the light to set the timing on the new 4runner, and he remarked we've used this thing only 3 times since buying it.. Glad its getting some more use!
Can you post that link for setting the timing? My bud's going to need that in a bit for his 4.3.

Easier for me to tell you than to post all the links I found in searches. It depends which engine he has, basically which year.
