Well it was a really nice day, we got a lot done. Big6 and Scott came over and we thrashed on the green CJ for almost 12 hours.
Big6 worked on removing the drag race ratchet shifter.
I could barely move the rig around the yard, couldn't find gears, it was annoying as hell to go from drive to reverse, and the shifter took a 5 step program to get into park. All in all, it sucked for wheeling. It may be the cat's ass on the track, not saying it didn't work exactly how it should. You don't need to find reverse quickly at the strip.
Basic shifter installed with mechanical linkage. That was another thing about the B&M, it was cable shift and it was burned thru.
I welded up the rockers. Big6 was gonna get it done at work, but they were too busy. He did some of the backside, and I did the front stuff that you can see.
This one had some boogers on it before 6 realized he should stop and wait for a better cosmetic bead, I buttered up the seam with lots of wire make it look nice.
The back bumper was kinda falling off, so Scott ripped it off to repair it and make a tire carrier. (glass tub, no tailgate, so no hinges, yay!) Ye Olde CJ frame rears its ugly head.
I trimmed off some excess C-channel and started getting my head around the mounting.
Scott started the tire carrier
Big6 grinding.
Scott welds up the carrier.
...and squares offf the frame with some hitch tube jammed inside and lap welded all around. Damn old CJ frame should hold now.
I made a rear frame crossmember on the plasma table with a bunch of bolt holes, and a flange, that fits inside the back of the bumper.
We used the new crossmember as a template and drilled all the holes into the bumper mount.
Just starting to lose the light.....
There, got 'er done. Nice solid recovery points and the Swamper doesn't flap around.
Pretty fun day. It was long, but i'm not all wiped out today, good to have competent helpers!
Thx guys.
