after some thinking...decided rather then putting up tons of useless post's....thought i would turn this into my jeep build post. after destroying one of my factory steps over the weekend i thought it would be time to build my own. started with this peice of pipe cut, shaped, bent and ended up here went out picked up some 2" x 2" x 1/8" square tubeing and started to cut and grind some more and eventually i've ended up with this another view it's getting fully welded up tomorrow at a local shop (cause my welding sucks big time) and then throw some nice black texture powder coating on there and they should look pretty dang nice lol. my only question is ii've got 2 mounting points on each rail (the 2"x2" tubeing) and it's going to a 1/4" plate that i'm going to have either bolted or welded to the frame (which would be better?) but they part i'm really stuck on is should i put some other cross peice's off the mounting points (to connect to the bottom of the body like the factory points were) or is the current square tubing going to be strong enough?

Looks good! Clean and sleek! Powder coat still wont hold up to rocks tho,,, You might find that 1/8" wall square tubing alittle thin. It will definately bend with a mid to hard impact.

nothing will hold up when i get on the rocks...including my 2 peice factory step in the shop right now lol
also with the added clearance and soon to be lift...i'm hoping i don't have to worry about it hitting them to hard lol
wanna do some welding for me?

They'll look good painted up. Don't stick out too far.
You'll want the supports up to the body mounts. Think of when you drop onto something, the forces are straight into the rocker.
the plate back at the frame will have a big job to do.
The 1/8" wall is kinda thin, ok since the pipe is there for sliding, but 1/8" for the supports...(especially without body mount attachment points), is not gonna last.
I'd use 1/4" supports, and additional body mount attachments to make it last. Maybe weld a tab onto the body mount, that you can make the rocker bolt to it, or something.
The frame mounts can be welded or bolted. bolted is cleaner and removable. frame sleeves are the right way to do it, not just holes drilled.
The mounting is the hard part! The rails look nice.....but if they bend up and dent your rockers, its not cool!
good tech pics, btw. thx for posting.

ok all you master fabricators out there...need some input from ya lol... this is my current mouting for my rails. wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to stiffen these things up as was mentioned in a few previous post's. I do have enough tubing left that i can ad a third mount going to the frame. my other thought was to build up the space between the square tubing and the bottom of the floor where the factory step was mountedand bolt it there. just means i have to move the supports over but it's nothing a cut off wheel wont fix...especially with those welds lol

id add the 3rd mount. it will make it stiff enough once they are welded to the rail and bolted to the frame

I'm no expert, but your welds don't look like they're getting very good penetration in the pics.
Nice clean design.

yes..those are not the final welds lol...i wouldn't trust my own welding...
hardkor..you say add a third mount to the rail...your talking my 2" squaqre tubing right? then just bolt up to the frame? which i'm going to be useing 4 grade 8 bolts in the corners of the 1/4" plate so there wont be alot of lifting in the corners...i hope lol

yep, i'd put one more 2" tubing to the frame, then u can use it as a high lift point.
