It did have a bead of what looked like silicon or something already between the floor and the bottom 2x4. I did run a bead of that stupid goop down the middle of that bottom 2x4 plus taped it. I was going to run a bead down every 2x4 but said f*ck it very quickly.
all in good time! thanks for the feed back. It's neat when you're working in the corners that are fully insulated and taped it's dead silent.

not warmer yet, the soffitt's are still wide open. with the help of Apesteguy today we got everything pulled off the other side of the wall (cabinet and other half of bench) so I will start insulating that tomorrow night.
It's amazing how much crap accumulates when it not's in it's original place. apesteguy came up with a good idea, as space is at a premium in there to Build a mobile work bench as well as a small stationary (hold the vice) bench. That way i will retain the full length which is actually 20ft and maybe gain a bit as i will be able to park on an angle putting to use the corners of the shop as well.
I'm setting a finish date of February 23rd.

Looking good B! If/when you get some drywall up and the ceiling done you'll hardly believe it is the same garage! Should be quite nice when done!

thanks guys!
question: does strapping for the ceiling go over or under the vapour barrier? or does it really matter? I figure strap it first, throw the insulation up then VB it.

That's how I see most people do it, but honestly it wouldn't really matter... as long as you get the vapor barrier sealed well.

finished up insulating the walls and soffitts. found out the insulation i got for the ceiling is only R12 thickness and as well is not wide enough to fit between the 2x4's snug.
I guess I'll double it up and cut up a bunch of 4 inch strips to fill the gap. anyone have any other recommendations?
I was spraying that expanding foam in the other window and around the door last night and the stupid tip broke off, i should have stopped and put gloves on, but noooooo now my hands look diseased.
Left to do:
add two electrical outlets - waiting on my old mans-old man (2 weeks now), I can run the wire but leave it to him to connect it all together. Done by next week hopefully???
goop seal and hang VB on other half of shop (Done by this Saturday)
strap the walls (do i need to? or can i place the drywall right on the 2x4's?) and ceiling ( i have to strap it to hold insulation up) (Done by Wednesday the 15th) anyone have any instruction on this? placement etc...
insulate ceiling (done by Saturday the 18th)
VB ceiling (done by Sunday the 19th)
drywall!!!!! (done by thursday the 23rd)
Put shit back together (before the weekend of the 24th!)
First Project.... LONG ARMS!!!!!! I am assuming a large amount of grinding will be needed which is the reason i feel dry walling before is a good idea.

Take the r12 back . Code calls for r40 for ceilings ( not that code matters here ) the more insulation you put up there , the cheaper and easier it will be to heat

Also Brandon... You don't need to strap the walls. The ceiling is the only place you need to strap in that "Slice of Heaven".
I found myself that vapour barrier on the ceiling first then strap it. Once that is done climb up and put the insulation to it.
To strap the ceiling make sure you start tight to an outside wall with the first strip and then measure over 16" and place a mark. This mark will be the center of the next row of strapping. Continue this process until you reach the other side wall.
Also make sure that you don't have all your ends stopping in the same place. Try to offset the lengths of stapping every 4 or 5 rows then you can make the same cut and stop in the same spot as the first piece and keep the pattern going.
Like Scott mentioned... The more insulation in the ceiling the easier it will be to heat.
If you are going to be doing any of this on the weekend, please let me know and I can come over and give you a hand.

I may have to make what i have work. Glad to hear about not having to strap the walls that will save a days work probably. Thanks for the great tips everyone! if it wasn't for you guys i'd have insulation stapled to the front door. This weekend is a bit of a strange one, Apesteguy and I will be setting up a new office at my work so we're booked for during the days. The evenings should be fine, I'll stop over at The Home Place and get enough strapping for the ceiling and shoot you a text if you're going to be around Aaron.

Don't forget to make an access into the attic space.
