well i just started taking leftovers and putting it all together to see how it would and i ended up with this... not finalized yet but i like it. upside down laptop!! it's right at eye level, well for me but im a stocky little fella. simply rotated the screen in the grpahics options hung it upside down and voila, didn't take any extra bench space! set of computer speakers i had laying around, they sound great and have good range, has a little sub as well. I'll clean up the wires once i get a few more outlets run in here. I'll also make it more permanent when i know this is where it's going to stay.

That's really cool. How did you actually mount the laptop? Can you still close it 'up'?

Thanks guys. Right now its simply mounted with dollarama brackets, I can easily slide the laptop in and out so I can take it inside at night. The brackets basically squeeze the base against the bottom of the top shelf. You can close the laptop about 90% of the way. I will eventually change the mounting because its already popped off a couple keys sliding it in and out which doesn't matter because the keyboard didn't work anyway.

Well done! I have the same speakers I believe attached to my garage nerd setup.

Good for following tutorials, and when your keyboard gets greesey you can chuck it I was given one of those silicone keyboards that you can wash. The thing has been in the garage 4 years now and has had a lovely layer of dust/grinding wheel material all over it - I just shake it off..

i am thinking about running some cat5 out to the shop, the wireless signal is good enough to stream radio stations at the lowest bit rate but that makes it sound kinda crappy.
also do you handy fella's have a cheap way to rig up an exhaust fan that's fairly powerful? right now i have an old sunbeam room heater in the window and i just set it on the high fan setting to exhaust the air but i have a feeling that is less than adequate.

I ran cat5 out to my garage too... Wireless is convenient, but wired beats it hands down for reliability IMO.
As for the exhaust fan, watch Kijiji...
