Finally built this 2 years ago,and not quite finished yet.Had a hand in the framing and trusses and roof tight.Wife and I wraped it,sided, put all facia, and soffit, windows, doors, drywalled ourselves.Have to finish the gable ends in spring.Going with clapboard siding.Sorry no build pics had them but lost on last PC when it crashed and burned. Anyways has a 4 foot frost wall, with 1 ft wall of concrete above floor with 8 ft stud on bottom plate and top double plate for a little over 9FT inside finished.Underground tec cable to house panel for power to a breaker panel in shop.2x6 construction and insulated walls and ceiling.Size is 24 x 28 and future plans are a lean-two off right side full lenth for more storage.Had to put in the driveway and where garage sits was all forest with large pines and spruce and some hardwood.House has its own paved driveway. Lots of room for 2 vehicles in here and room to work on both.Have 2 large work benches, drill press, metal chop saw, vise, lots of power outlets for tools.220 wirefeed welder that gets used lots for everything(a must have for shop)Have a oil furnace I got for $200 that works owesome and a tank that had 6 years left on it for $100.Heats shop in minutes very happy with this setup. Put an attic stairway in also to get to attic. Can stand up straight in centre and have roughly 8 ft of space wide to store stuff.Don't keep a whole lot up here though for now. Oh! 14 year old shop companion said enough pics lets go in the house for a bit! ;D Anyhoo very happy with it so far and spend much time in here (the wife says) Don't miss laying on a piece of cardboard on frozzen ground trying to get a starter off or something thats for sure..... Cheers......

Nice shop man! The oil furnace setup is one of the tidier installations I've seen, looks good. You can see the tank outside in one of the pics.
The attic is a nice bonus too.

The furnace takes up hardly any room.I had put in chimney for wood stove and had one but got the deal on the oil furnace. You can put furnace alot closer to wall than a wood stove.Only 2 ft for pipe from both walls as appose to 3+ft with stove so put in corner with tank right outside. Was told for furnace to work good take end door off and put your filter in its place so it can draw cold air from floor.Had a hood made up to blow warm air into bay area instead of alot of duck work on ceiling and it works great and warms up shop quickly and right away instead of wood.Plan on a lean-two off side of garage where tank is so will protect from weather...

That's the way I'd do it if using oil too. looks good!

Sorry to hear about the Aussie. Pretty old tho, a good run. The shop looks great, the cladding is nice. I'd like to do the lean-to like that, but I have storage behind the shop and need to be able to get a backhoe thru the 'alley'. Trees on the other side. So the lean-to is getting a metal roof? I like those colored ones that are starting to be more popular. The walk to the man-door and landscaping is very nice too. Tidy!

Did you put the lean to on deck blocks? If so how did you mount the lean to to the garage to allow for frost moving the lean to? I'm going to be putting a lean to on next summer so I am going to see what is the best way to do this as many people over here say I need to sink the posts 4' to avoid the frost.

Thanks creepy. The first pics were taking in Dec and Tilly was her normal self.In Feb we noticed some changes in her (dramatic) so we took her to our vet for test and she had a growth in her liver and at her age they said not worth doing anything as results were not good.So we took her home and over a month she went down hill big time till we had seen enough and put her at peace before there was to much pain.Won't go into detail of what we seen in her but was very sad.You animal owners know how hard this is to do after a long life but we all go. Anyhow the metal is just galvanized as the roof you can only see from the air because the way the land goes. Was looking at black to match shop roof but is alot more money so went this way.....

Yeah its on blocks. The proper way would be to dig a hole for each post and put a sona tube in and pour concrete and put a bracket in before hard to bolt 4" post to. That side of my shop is all shale and should'nt move to much?I nailed a ledger board on wall to studs every 16" and nailed rafter to that, but also went with rafter ties to each rafter and hurricane ties where the rafters set on beam for more strength.

Your 'new' shed is on blocks too, correct?, so it will move some with the frost as well. I would think you should match your lean-to with the building: If the building is on a frost wall, the the lean-to should have sona tubes or its own frost wall. If the building is on blocks, the lean-to should be okay on blocks as well. Just my 2 cents.

Shop is on a 4ft frost wall, that part cost me around 6 grand to have done including the cement, would be more moola today that was 4 years ago.If I close it in some day I could put an engineered slab in and set on it maybe?I think it will move abit but I'm not worried about it to bad?Seen alot built this way and are ok.More worried about the hurricane winds we have in winter during a Nor'easter that we get that will have me on edge.... May want to tarp in for that or will that be worse than open?? anyone??
