I'd have to drag the CJ out for that one, I couldn't go any farther by the lake.

I went to other end of the Joe's Lake Trail, it comes out just before Front Lake Road, on Mire Lee Drive. Big 'No Tresspassing' sign by the access, it goes beside a guy's barn and skirts a field before getting back into the woods. I'm just guessing, but buddy had a lot of toys around and there was a neighbor with a lifted Chev. If somebody went and asked him permission to pass thru, he might give it. Probably just doesn't want wha-hoos driving thru his yard. According to NS law, unless the trail is marked 'no tresspassing', its free game. So we are good from the other end. One permission would open it up. We got 3/4 of the way to Prime Brook. Of note around Joe's lake, was that the forest wasn't that old, 60 years maybe? There was no old growth. We saw one giant hardwood that was felled in logging operations, but not harvested. There was a berm all along the side of Joe's Lake like a property marker, or farmer's field stone wall where they would throw rocks from the feilds. I think that area used to be one of the largest dairy farms in Cape Breton, (Tobin's Farm) and certainly could have gone from Kings Road right back to the lake. And then.....I got a coffee and went wheeling again. lol Made it from Floral Heights to Caribou Marsh. There was a red land marker/survey line near the Caribou Marsh side, and then a bunch of trees marked red, eventually a fresh clearcut and a big blind up a tree. I went to the woods road where a skidder was parked, but didn't drive out to Caribou Marsh. Wanted to check out the other end from the road, instead of coming out in some guy's yard. And i also kinda recall there being an area around there owned by Natives, and didn't want to piss anyone off. There was not a 'no tresspassing' sign when entering the 'red' property. There is a paintball business around there too, if its still active. And then I went again yesterday, recalled a cross-country ski adventure I went on as a child with me mudder and brother. Remember that Al? lol We were like 7 and 9 or something. Got 1/4 of the way from Keltic Drive to Sydport Access rd, but got stopped by a burned out car blocking the trail. (needs to be winched aside, and I had on my good sneakers. : Could also go to Westmount Rd, and Breamore Dr. Checking that out in an hour or so. Its an old powerline cut, looks like a bad swamp, but didn't really get up to the bumper and had a solid base. I guess in the summer, you can drive cars as far as I got. But I was in puddles and ice, not passable by a car. there is a water tower out there you can see from Sydney, on the hill across the harbour. Enterance is before the tracks, bunch of no dumping signs. Stay to right and follow powerlines, left follows along the tracks and goes to a sketchy house. I'm going to check out the Westmount road side shortly. AND.....found the trailhead from Floral Heights to where we were in the old chopping and can connect to Joe's Lake from there. Its where we were heading before having to turn around with Shaun's poor running TJ. All off the stock 'maps' app on the iphone. Great thing about trails near urban areas, good resolution! Any of these areas are 'walkable' to MacDonald's in an hour or two, and have cell coverage.
