I can't wait for in-floor heat at home. I'm spoiled at work, the 60x80 garage I'm in is great. even after christmas, and having the shop closed for 10 days, and nobody tending the Wood Doctor, it was still 12.5° according to the wall monitor. hopefully we will be able to keep it up to that here in the barn. and on that note! we got cold today, it was -14° outside, and -8° inside. We decided to try to do something about the cold. We brought this home from the cottage last year. used a little steel roofing and took out the top window sash, filled it in, cut a hole for the pipe, and TADA!! Oh, and this morning in the cold, I hauled this in and tore it apart a bit to see what I'm gonna need before putting it in my ZJ

This is looking great. The new floor will be good to get in.How smooth you going? I like it smooth for sweeping and using a squeegee to get snow melt out or for washing floor and getting rid of water.Never found it slippery at all on feet myself and wouldn't want it any other way. That's just my view though?

the plan is to make it nice and smooth. much easier to clean and squeegy water with a smooth floor.

that's identical to the stove my dad dropped off about a month ago, it's just been sitting in the corner of my garage waiting for me to do something with it. how did it work out for you?

well, we only spent about 45 minutes in there after starting the fire, but in that time, the temperature went from -8° to -3°, and the fire wasn't REALLY burning yet. I went back out an hour and a half later, but there were only coals left, and it was at -3° then. I think that even with -15° temperatures outside, we should be able to at least bring it up above 0° in there. we also have an infra-red heater to try out. it is supposed to be good for up to 1,000 square feet. the barn is 26x36, which would be 936 square feet. with both going, it should be decent.

yesterday, Dad didn't go to work, as he didn't have much on, and he is self-employed. He decided to start putting up a little insulation to try to make the barn a little warmer. this morning I went out and helped him put some more up, then took over for him and let him help me (after the stupid-ass tipped the step ladder over while he was on it, and landed on the floor. he was lucky though, bruised his elbow pretty good, but he should be good otherwise.) I'd say we had about 4 hours into it total finished one side. it would have gone MUCH faster if the guy who built it over 100 years ago used a measuring tape when he set the studs in place for the walls. they range anywhere from 14" centres to about 22" centres. makes for a whole LOT of wasted insulation, but oh well. the ceiling is all done with R-20, walls will be R-12. oh, and we had a fire on this afternoon, had it up to about 9° inside. not bad when it was -6° outside, and we only have half of a ceiling insulated.

out having fun again today, we got most of the ceiling finished, except for an area about 6x12. too much junk in the way. we also ran out of plastic, so hopefully they insulation stays in place until Dad gets a new roll of it. aand, about 8 feet from the stove this afteroon: we had it blazing for a while and the temperature was up to about 23° in the same place. the floor was thawing from all across the barn. we will get some plastic draped over the double-doors and over the window on the north-east wall, that should help keep some more heat in.

wow, guess it's been a while since the last update. NO, we never got the floor poured. things kept coming up, and we have had projects in and out of there all year, mainly a '98 ZJ we got for my brother. We ACTUALLY are starting to clean up the insides now, and are working to=wards clearing it out completely, so we can get the floor poured, maybe this winter? have had way too many projects this year to concentrate on only one. wish there wasnt' so much to do, but that's life I guess. Ill get some photos of some of the other things that have been done, maybe tomorrow.

I had missed the insulation too. Hopefully you'll have a chance to keep at it this winter. I've started work on my barn. Roof repairs first, foundation and footing replacement eventually. I'll get some photos up in another thread sometime soon.

yeah, I was too busy running the roads, then changing the oil and thermostat in the Grand, and starting to wire up the amp and 6x9's for the back. I'll try to remember tomorrow tro get some pics, although remembering is often easier said than done.

soooo... we needed space to take things out of the barn long enough to get the floor finished up. obviously, This called for extreme measures. so we built this..... or half of it. since the second building is there, we only had 14' of space to work with. we built a 10' section and temporarily set up the other 4' to fill in the gap until the other building is either lifted, repaired and moved, or else taken down. By the way, those are beans hanging from the joists, nothing else.

Why dry beans? Admitably, odd that that's what intrigued me.
